Background: Doing an engine build on Kade to swap into my 90 hatch for future Ka-T plans. Worked out a good deal with a local shop. Says it will take two weeks until I have my engine back to swap in. I understand that is a bit long, but as he needed to order the parts and send it off to a machine shop, I understood.

I knew things weren't gonna be on time when I saw my engine sitting in the same place it was a week and a half after I dropped it off. And that was before I found out the pistons had just been ordered, 9 days later then they should of.

Well 2 weeks has come and gone... about 2 weeks ago. I was promised everything would be done by friday at the latest, last friday that is...

Any suggestions as to what I should do? I keep requesting days off and getting friends to do the same so we can do the install. Today I am sitting around doing nothing on my 4th requested day off. Not only am I not making the $100 I would get from working, but neither are my friends.

They wont pick up the phone at the shop when I call (caller ID) and I don't want to drive the 50mins it takes to get there get told its not done.

I want to tell him to install the engine for me now, free of charge, but I dont want to wait for him to get around to doing it, or do a shatty job because he isnt getting paid for it.

Please leave some suggestions, as even my most rational ones might end up in my incarceration.

1800 for all the work. All timelines were verbal, but had other people there when he said them. Verbal contacts are legal in GA.

I'd go and get the motor back and bring it elsewhere. All they are going to do is give you a half *** job anyway if they do it at all

Try calling from a payphone. Or a friend's cell. Or just about any other phone besides the one with the number they're expecting. Tell them what they're doing is unethical business behavior, and that you're taking them to the BBB for the trouble they've caused. You'll be expecting the motor returned free of charge, and you won't be held liable for the parts they've already ordered.

Verbal contracts are worthless anywhere unless you have a lot of unbiased witnesses. If your situation was what I'm imagining, then you probably had yourself, the shop owner/manager and one or two of his cronies. Do you really expect them to testify against their boss in court? Sure, he'd lose out on a couple grand, but they'd probably lose their jobs.

So I would get that engine out of there however you can and find another shop to do the work. Besides, how local of a shop could it be if you have to drive 50 minutes to get there? Georgia must be a pretty sparsely populated place if that's the case!

let me just say this

give him a few days and then go get your motor

IMO you should have done all this yourself.....rebuild would be the hardest part depending on what parts you get
