OK guys, my car is in the body shop and I have a BOMEX kit...the body guy said that the parts do not fit good and wants to know what to do...You see the bumper is already on, its the side skirts that don't fit...What should I do? I believe I have two options:

a) Have him paint the kit, and have someone else put it on...

b) sell the kit on ebay and buy OEM skirts...

Have him show you that they dont work. If then you see for yourself they dont work get new ones, but if any doubt take it to another shop that is better.

Most bodykits, both genric and name brand, don't fit well and require work to make fit, sometimes its alot of work. I know from personal experience that Andys autosports kits, Ground Design 2000 kits, and generic ebay kits have major fitment issues. Most of them don't line up with the factory body lines, or don't give you even gaps (the space between the bumpers and the body), or have horribly large gaps. Sideskirts are usually the worst though, as they all appear to get pulled from the mold before they are hard and warp. Everyone, other than stock, that I've ever had to install was twisted, a few to the point where they had to be broken and refiberglassed straight. I've seen rear bumpers that weren't warped at all and made of nice thick FG that didn't even come close to fitting the car.

Thats one of the reasons that althought it wouldn't cost me a dime to install and paint a kit, I won't get one again. I've installed around 15 different kits of various brands on differnent cars and I have yet to see one that fits nicely (other than stock). I haven't personally run across a Bomex kit yet, but I have talked to people that complained that their $1200 bomex kit required bondo and fiberglass work and did not fit like a glove.

You do not want to try to mount a body kit after you paint it, because if it doesn't fit and needs to be altered to fit, you'll have to get it repainted.

Thanks Bali, the kit is still in the test fit stage....So I have time to make a decision. The thing is, I thought Bomex was supposed to be quality...I am really disappointed and may sell the kit, and go with the stock bumper. However I will probably go down to the shop and check the fit myself. They said they had not altered the kit at all...I wish I could get a refund!

Does anyone know of a qulaity shop in Southern California that might be able to fit the kit for me?

Make the front of the sideskirt fit properly with the fender, and see what the back end of the sideskirt does. See if someone can push it against the car while you hold the front end. Most of the time these things are straight on one end, but the opposite end is twisted and will not fit flush or flat against the other. One of the other sideskirt problems that I've seen is the area just under the door. Sometimes this area is too thick, or warped and will scrape the bottom of the door or cause the door to not open.

SOmetimes you can get away with custom fabbing some steel brackets to apply the force you need to untwist the sideskirt but getting it to pull flush against the fenders or quartepanels is sometimes impossible without modifiying th sideskirt, or at the most extreme, molding the sideskirt in with fibrglass so there is no seam between it and the fender/quarter.

OK I went to check out the kit at the shop. These guys are lazy. The kits a small bit of trimiing at proper fitment, but it DOES fit ok. It just needs some small work to make it look right. Geez, what happened to making the customer happy? Either way, I called up a shop that does a lot of fiberglass work...corvettes/porches...SOO I will be taking my car over to that shop. The guy on the phone said there body kit worked for Porche and ONLY works on kits/fiberglass work...I might have to spend a little more, but it will hopefully look right.
