I tested my computer a while back and and scored a 5.9 due to my HDD's.

I score either a 7.2 or 7.4 on all the other tests, but when it comes to disk data transfer rate, I'm held back. I have two 1TB 7200rpm Seagates in a RAID0, but due to my 5.9 I'm second guessing my RAID.

What's your score? If you score higher than me, tell me about your HDD setup.

For those that don't know how to test their computer...
-Click you "start" menu, or that Windows looking button on the bottom left.
-Right click Computer.
-Hit properties.
-Win Perf Index will be towards the middle with a number next to it.
-If you've not run it, shut down all your programs and run it.

Oof, 5.9? Back when I benched my laptop before swapping its lone HDD out (500GB Seagate 7200.4), it got a 5.9 with the lone drive.

My primary rig is another story... The storage pings 7.8-7.9, but that's with a RAID adapter (under NDA for it) and 4x Crucial RealSSD C300 256GBs in RAID 5.

Yeah 5.9. All the risks of a RAID0, but none of the benefits? :ohno: Granted I'm using a software RAID and don't have a dedicated controller card, but I still thought I'd see something!

Hrmm... What are your system specs, etc? What drivers are you running?

Also, what are the exact model and firmware of your two drives?

I'm fairly sure the 5.9 for hard drive is bork'd. EVERYONE I've ever talked to has a 5.9. From people with 10000rpm VelociRaptors to people with crummy laptop drives, with various RAID arrays, or solo drives etc.. All 5.9s. Google it. EVERYONE has a 5.9. It's broken. Or the criteria are stupid. Which is the same thing.

Anyway, here's mine:

I voted 7.1 as though the HDD score wasn't there.

Doesn't exist... you need either Vista or 7.

And, unless it's been updated since I last used it, Vista tops out at 5.9 across the board, while 7 goes up to 7.something.

I'm at 6.4 due to my drives.

I'm disappointed. I've got 4 Western Digital 640GB Blue drives with AAM turned off in a Raid 0. They're short-stroked to 250GB each. So 1TB total. Throughput is only 240MBps. Response is pretty good at 8ms.

I am disappointed though because two 640s in Raid 0 get 170MBps. I was expecting a much larger jump as I doubled the number of drives.

I believe I've just got too much connected to my controller. I'm using the integrated SB710. 4 ports are used by the drives, and 2 by the optical drives. I think if I moved to a hardware controller I'd see a huge jump.

I did notice that when on 4096 in HDTune I hit 510MBps transfer speeds. So that's not bad...

...5.9. Even my 7200 RPM laptop HDD yields that...the rest of my indicators are in the 6's (Core 2 Duo @ 2.57Ghz, 4GB PC3-8500 RAM, Radeon 3650HD...)
