I have a KA24E and purchased this engine online. It was supposly rebuilt and I notice the rocker arm followers are off center a bit and lift up just a tiny. Will this change when I initally start the engine or do I have a major problem?

Yes something is amiss. Rocker retainers look to be installed incorrectly but hard to determine from your picture. Take a couple more pictures including one top view.

Looks like most (maybe all) of your intake side rocker retainers are bent/distorted. I have no idea how someone could have been brainless enough to do that, but you will need to replace them.

The retainers im speaking of are the sheet metal parts that align the rockers on top of the rocker shafts. If you happen to have another ka24e around swap them over. If you dont, your going to have to look around because those cant be fixed (possibly could, but not worth it).

Be sure to follow the proper procedure when removing/installing the rocker shaft bolts. You do not want to bend the shafts.

Yeah i just noticed that. I will swap them over from my other engine. Do you happen to know the torque specs? I will check my book but I couldn't find them. Mayeb I over looked something. After I took the pictures I looked a lot closer at the holders and one was cracked from being torque down to hard. I'm going to have to ***** at the person who sold me the engine.

Ok you were right the brackets were torque down to hard. I just swapped mine from my other head and now it looks picfect the the valves go down better than expected. I torque them down in two stages 15 ft pounds then 30 ft pounds.
