It was very hard for me to start the engine when it's cold. When I tried to rev my car, it always seemed to be choking. When started to drive after a the engine warmed up, it suddenly started to choke (feelings like the engine's dying on me) and backfired. Especially when I try to take off again at the stop signs, if I give too much throttle, it feels like it's going to stall on me. It goes on for a short while, then suddenly all is well again. Even driving on freeway, for times, it would still choke and backfire. It happens mostly when the engine's cold.Today, the Engine Service Light finally came on, and got a code for P1336, but not sure what it really means. Could someone please tell me what's really going on w/ my car, and what's the error code? Thanks.

If you're seeing black smoke out the exhaust, you might check the connection for the engine temp sender. They can corrode and give a false reading. So can a faulty sending unit.

The code itself is indicating that the there's a problem with the crank position sensor. That might explain the roughness, if the timing's off.
