I'm getting pissed over here. First it took me forever to program my garage to the homelink. When I finally got it working, it still doesn't work. I can open my garage door inside the garage. I can close it when I get outside of the garage. When I come home to get back into the garage, it doesn't work. Since I have to still carry the original opener in the car, I have to use it. Hell and that doesn't work all of the time. WHAT THE HELL IS THE PROBLEM? My wife has an MDX, we have no problem with her homelink?

Any thoughts, please, I'm getting ready to take a bat to this opener. It's cold in Chicago and I hate having to open my moonroof or opening a door, to try and get the garage door up.

Are you completing the process by putting your garage motor in learn mode?

I thought(dangerous word) I did. I can open it inside the garage, and right when I pull out. But when i come home, it doesn't work. Like the signal isn't strong enough.

It seems telling to me that the original opener doesn't work all of the time inside of your car. Do your windows have some sort of film on them that may be inerfering with the signal (perhaps tinted, perhaps clear but heat reflective)?

It doesn't. I do have tints on my car(35%), but it was doing this before I even got the tints.

I have to hold my homelink button for a good 10-15 seconds before the signal gets to it's destination. HA! Try holding it longer when you're further away.

But yeah why do you have to open your sunroof or window to make even the original remote open the garage door?! It sounds like you've got something in the car that is interfering with the transmitters signal. Is your tint metallic or ceramic?

I would have to check. But it was doing this before I got the tints on my car.

I believe there are heat-reflective nearly clear films that can be purchased. I was thinking you may have had one of them. I don't know if you could just add another layer to that or not. Did you tint yourself or have it tinted? If someone else tinted, you may have never noticed the first film, and they may or may not have removed it before adding the second. Did it get worse with the tint? Is your car a CARB compliant car (California Air Resource Board)? I think it would have a sticker under the hood if it is. I know that California requires heat reflective windshields that can interfere with GPS and stuff, so maybe if you are pulling into your garage, the windshield is interfering and then the garage door being closed is a little more interference. OTOH, when already in the garage, signal doesn't need to go through the windshield, and when backing out and closing the door, the door isn't already closed to be a little more intereference. Seems like a long shot, but if you're pulling in, try hitting the button before you're facing the garage or try backing in.

Also, see if there's a black wire in the garage door head unit that you can let drop from the bottom so it gets better reception.

I would also re-program once more to see if there's a frequency that needs to be tweaked. The rolling code system is right as you know, but maybe the frequency needs to be re-set? It is a "rolling code" system, right?

Since programming mine, I've had this issue too, sometimes I just have to hold it longer.

Just be glad you don't have a Sienna, in almost a year I still can't get it to work.

While programming my wife's M37, I fell off the ladder, broke 5 bones in my foot/ankle and put 8 stitches in my head. But I did get it working! Works like a charm.
