Hi, I have a 2001 SE with 142000 miles. The car has been great for me. Recently the check engine light was on and the shop diagnosed it to be the oxygen sensors. They replaced two of them and the car has better jump but upon stopping at a stop sign or red light the car downshifts (automatic) a little bit harder before coming to a stop. The shop says that the new oxygen sensors is causing this.........why would this happen now when the car used to downshift to a stop smoothly? As well, while at a red light, the car will drop about 500 rpm sporadically. After I had the spark plugs changed, the car would drop revs at the light and stall out..........this precipitated the change in oxygen sensors.Any help would be muchly appreciated.

did the shop put in the right plugs? should be NGK Laser Platinums. never heard of o2 sensors causing idle issues. this seems a little strange IMO. maybe take it to another shop for a second opinion.

The wrong choice of plugs in these cars has a detrimental effect. Like jltibbs suggested, make sure that the plugs are NGK...if the shop put in Bosch, then have them taken out immediately and NGK put in. (Your receipt should tell you what plugs were put in).

I have a feeling the Bosch plugs just don't combust the mixture as well as the NGK's do in our cars. Therefore, I imagine there would be a higher fuel content in the exhaust which would lead to premature OS failure among other things.
