Hello everyone, i just recently purchased an '03 M45. I had it checked out by AAA and everything is in working order. In doing some research, i'm hearing about a big recall. Can anyone tell me what that recall was for..?

Some small perecentage of the VK45 have ring problems and thus use more oil than average........................after a consumption test cycle 3-4 periodic level tests] Nissan may be persuaded to replace those engines that use more than 1 quart per thousand miles important to KNOW you engine condition prior to 69,999 miles as the 70k warranty is a brickwall limit.

The dealer has to monitor the test. No self-monitoring on this one. The cost of an engine replacement is not exactly low!

Yes, the engine oil burning issue is a known thing on those model years. Please do a search for this topic and you will see the previous threads on this.

But, there is NO formal recall from Infiniti on it. Apparently, it did not turn out to be a completely common issue for all the VK45 engines to the degree mentioned (1qt per 1000 miles used) - so has not been formally recalled.

2003 INFINITI M45 ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLINGRecall Date: 11/17/2003

Summary: ON CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES, THE CIRCUIT BOARD FOR THE CRANK POSITION SENSOR OR CAM POSITION SENSOR MAY HAVE AN IMPROPER SOLDER JOINT DUE TO SOLDER DEFORMATION CAUSED BY HEAT STRESS ACCELERATED BY THE EXISTENCE OF FLUX RESIDUE DURING THE SOLDERING PROCESS.

Consequence: THIS COULD CAUSE THE "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" WARNING LIGHT TO COME ON, CREATE A NO START CONDITION, CAUSE REDUCED ENGINE POWER, OR CAUSE THE ENGINE TO STOP RUNNING WITHOUT WARNING DURING VEHICLE OPERATION, WHICH COULD RESULT IN A CRASH.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE CRANK POSITION SENSORS. CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR(S), AND IN SOME CASES, THE VARIABLE TIMING CONTROL SENSOR(S). VEHICLES INVOLVED IN A PREVIOUS RECALL CAMPAIGN, 01V357, ARE ALSO INCLUDED IN THIS NEW CAMPAIGN. THE REPLACEMENT SENSORS USED IN THAT CAMPAIGN ARE ALSO AFFECTED. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN ON DECEMBER 22, 2003. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT NISSAN AT 1-800-647-7261 OR INFINITI AT 1-800-662-6200.

Potential Units Affected: 630000

Its amazing how there are 630,000 "Potential Units Affected" when there are less than 20,000 units produced. Anybody else notice this?

Noticed it but I did a little research, this involves all Nissan vehicles, not just the M so that's how the numbers are so high. Also, where are you coming up with the 20,000 units, I checked Infiniti's web site and they show calender year 2003 @ 4755 units & calendar year 2004 @ 2090 units; total of 6845?
