I was just looking around in my trunk...checking for any signs of water leaks from those pesky tail light seals when I noticed this...

I was just curious if anyone knew what that ugly looking panel right below the fuel pump access was. There's another one just like it above the pump panel, but not as ugly and poorly painted.

I thought maybe it was some kind of makeshift patch, but I don't see any signs of water damage anywhere in the spare tire well.

The fact that there's a piece much like just a foot or so towards the front of the car is puzzling as well.

that comes in all of the 240sx's, mine has begun to chip a bit, it seems to be made out of very hard rubber/ceramic. my guess is sound deadening material, or some pathetic attempt at padding for the trunk in case people recklessly throw heavy things into their trunk (prevent against scrapes/dents in the metal).

those are my two guesses!! maybe they are both right? :D

No ****! Thanks guys.

I guess people who *aren't* like us care about stuff like sound deadening material. A louder exhaust system should take care of any other little noises that might make their way in to the cabin!

lol, that is what you would think, but you are wrong :D

I took all of mine out and if I have the back seat down in my hatch, I get all kinds of crazy road noise. However my car is completely gutted there in the back, no carpet or anything...

Damn man you JUST CANT follow the rules can you???? Thats either a prepaired or modified mod.... Cant conform to DSP, then you run SM, and are still illegal!!!!

HAHAHAH!!!!!!

SCCA rules don't own me :D Well WTF class would I be in anyway? I got a motor that was never in the US, big front mount, crazy suspension, heim jointed everything, non USDM diff and axles, R compounds, hella brakes and no interior.

That probably puts me up against some kind of crazed kit car I could never be competitive against :(

That's ok, the drifting guys dig it :D

Untill you said no interior you where a 100% legal SM car, from what it sounds.

Remember the engine can be swapped as long as it fits the requirement to be in SM (3.0 and less for FI), and is from the same manufacturer... It says nissan on it right.

Suspension is also basically a free for all in SM. Im driving out there just to race against you then Im paying the 25$ to contest your illegal *** hahaha.

how about getting a blanket and using staples to hold it down instead of the OEM carpet.

Nope it has to be oem or an oem replica... Some could argue that it is lighter, thus faster, or heavier, thus shifting the weight distro further back... Yes they can be that anal, and if you attened a national event and win (do better then someone else), they do contest...

actually, you can remove the rear carpet since it is attached to the rear seat, which is allowed to be removed. you cannot, however, remove the sound deadening material glued to the floor or any interior panels. don't ask me why they let you remove the back seat, i have no idea.

I didn't remove the back seat, everything from the back seat forward is still intact. All I removed was the carpet on the back of the back seat, the sound deadening stuff, the speaker holder dealies and their covers and also the carpet panel things that covered the wheelwells.

if you wanna see pics of my stuff, go to the link in my sig up there.

Anyway, what class would I be in now? The local guys are going to let me run SM or SM2

I cant really say for sure but since you removed the trim, technically that would be a prepaired mod, IIRC. I barely have enough to attend events (havent attended the last two due to my tire being nearly bald and having to stretch the life), SO I havent gotten a book yet... But I know what I need to for DSP and SM :)

I forgot about the whole seat / carpet issue as I havent owned a s13 since 97' and the s14s arent like that :) Just scrounge up the few peices needed and put then back in. But then again if you only run locally and never attend / plan on attending a nationals event youll be fine in SM, as your region doesnt give a **** it seems. I mean you dominated the DSP class in a what should have been SM car previously (that was some funny **** catching you hehe)...

edit: so yeah put the trim back in and remove the seat (which is SM legal) and itll weight even less, Im guessing, but still be legal, well sorta..

Uhh, I like the back seat, but I hate the rear trim pieces because they get in the way of me adjusting the HE's. I don't plan on doing any nationals type stuff in the car, so they can bite me :D
