The history: I bought my 2005 G35 (used) this christmas, and immediately had the summers taken off and winters put on. I just changed my winters back to summers yesterday. When I had the car checked out, the guy said I would need to get my summers replaced soon, so I'm going to order new summers this week.

The issue: After changing the wheels (I have a set of winter rims, so I just did it myself) when driving at speeds above ~40 MPH, the steering wheel is now vibrating, and the car feels less stable.

Is the problem wheel alignment? Or could it be something else? I believe the tires are very old, as the car is at ~20,000 miles and it looks like these are the first set of tires (Bridgestone Potenzas).

My second question - if in fact you think they are out of alignment (or some other problem), is the car safe to drive for a few weeks while I wait for my replacement tires to arrive?

Thank you very much for your help!

I'd bet at least one of the tires is out of balance. They may have knocked a weight off when uninstalling or reinstalling the tire(s).

Either you have a tire balance problem, one or more of your tires are flat-spotted or you have a tire with a belt problem. The balance issue can be fixed but the other two require replacement. If the tires are the same size you can try a front to rear rotation until you get your new tires, otherwise you will just have to deal with the vibration.

I can deal with the vibration for a week or two until the new tires get here - is it safe to do so though? My tires aren't going to blow off while I"m on the road will they?

I'm not concerned with faster tire wear as I'm ditching all these tires in the next week or two, I just want to be sure I'm safe.

Unless it is vabrating the hell out of the car you should be OK unless you have a major tire issue which causes a blow-out.

Personally, I would just drive it until getting the new tires. The call itself is up to you
