So I have the 3.5 '08 coupe, automatic / manualmatic..Which mode is faster? or are they about the same.. (from zero or while moving to speed up)

And with manual mode, when should I shift gears?

can you tell i'm new.. Thx!

well not really fastestbut manual does allow you to kidna control the gerasso you don't get the weird revving of the cvt in auto mode that makes it bog at certain rpms even though your trying 2 accelerateand for manual, i'm stilll wondering on shifting points

for normal driving, you'd shift 3-4k rpm but if your trying to go fast, you could take it up there to 5-6k rpm. The transmission will shift itself when you near redline when left in Xtronic (manualmatic as you call it) mode if you don't shift it manually. The Xtronic mode always felt faster to me, but I could be wrong hahaa. Got no real number to back it up

I've heard people say that it's faster to leave it in Auto mode, but I think that depends on the way you drive. Our engines learn the way you drive so it can adjust to your driving, so I'm guess the auto mode speed would be different for someone who has a lead foot as opposed to someone who drives to save gas.

The 3.5 will accelerate faster from the line in automatic mode, whereas a mid-speed acceleration (45-65) would be quicker using a manual gear.

From a dig (or stopped) run it in "D" (auto) and when you get to about 60mph shift in manual mode (manualmatic as you called it) and then either let the computer shift tiself near redline or shift around 6000 rpms.

Thats what seems to work best for me and a few other CVT drivers.
