The thread about the previous owners of their pathy's/Q's got me thinking about other vehicles I've owned and how they sometimes came with a story.

I bought 1965 Chevelle Malibu sedan in college. It was 30 years old, had only 60k miles on it, was always garaged, and it was in pristine condition. The woman and her husband bought it new and her husband was so proud of his first new car. She said that the reason they bought it was because he wanted a reliable car to drive the grandkids around in. She was selling it because he passed away and she never drove. Besides, the grandkids were all grown up and were returning the favor by taking her were she needed to go.

She wanted $1200 for it. I told her I loved the car and about how much it reminded me of the 1966 Nova I had in high school. She said that she and her husband had looked at those also, but they were too small. LOL

Unfortunately, I had a pickup with a bad transmission that I had to sell before I could buy it. As it turned out, her grandson had recently started a landscaping business and was looking for a pickup. I called him and we worked out a deal. $400 plus my useless truck.

The best part was all of the Cheerios I found in the crevices of the back seat. It proved the whole story.

I sometimes wish that I had never sold that car but it did lead to my first 4x4 which opened up a whole new world for me.

Sorry, all my stories are either pain or lame (as in dull).

Alright, best I got:

The vehicle I have loved the most, my 81 F150. Bought it off some poor farmer who treated it like an ash tray. Cleaned it out (nothin like yanking everything and hosing out the cab of a truck!) and started a slow and steady work of building what my neighbor called "a go fast."

My dad and I spent a summer building a 302 race engine which never got to running while he lived in Idaho (clutch issues). He then had the fun of getting it moving and driving it cross country to PA while I was off at college in OR. Actually held up quite well until somewhere in Ohio, the clutch linkage (or starter ?) gave out and he had to tow it the rest of the way.

The first Xmas I spent at my new "home" I got it running and used it as a DD for a month. It was AWESOME. I'd be doing 55 on the freeway and then I'd hit the interstate, push the gas and suddenly was doing 75 (according to the speedo, which was off somewhere around 10-20%).

Sadly, when my dad tried to register it, it had no emissions and had to meet Pittsburgh emissions, which meant never. Sold it to some lucky bastard in Ohio. My dad told me (I wasn't present for the sale) that when the new owner started it up and gave it some gas, he got a big grin and said "Oh, this is going to be fun." So in my mind it went to a good home.

You know you can always find someone to just give you an e-test paper saying you passed right? If the truck was worth anything to you anyways. I have to do that every other year with my Crx as there is no wya it will pass emissions with its motor and open downpipe with no cats lol

Ive got some good stories but no time to type them right now. Got my Qx4 off of a guy who did all the dirty work of importing it across the border into canada from florida, got a DUI a week later, sold it for dirt cheap.

I also got my 3rd Crx GIVEN to me by my grandpa, he does work for his friends and there family, he did some painting/drywall for someone in a townhouse complex, didnt want any money, but those people insisted they pay him somehow, he noticed a rusty crx in there driveway, said I was inlove with them and already owned 2, they signed the title over to him for FREE!!!

I love my gramps

Well I was gonna walk to the bar to meet up with some buds, but its POURING outside so I decided not to.... so I thought of NICO

This isnt acquiring a car itself, but something I acquired IN the car lol

I was pulling out the middle console/shifter covers today because they were pretty dirty and I wanted to properly clean out all the cracks and what not. And looky what I found

A JOINT

Just a fat little 1 paper, but god knows how old the thing is, its gotta be pretty old because as you can see a bit in the second pic, the herb turned the white paper green lol. Probably came across the border with it down there to (I think it must have fell into the e-brake rubber boot hole)

I don't have any good acquiring stories (other than the REALLY good deal I gotat the dealer on my '95 PF) because I've only bought one used ('70 DatsunPU, bought in about 1980 as a trash hauler, ended up being the daily driver),but I've got a good selling story.

My late wife had an 1987 'vette, and a 1968 Firebird 400 convertible. The 'vetteis still in the garage, but I didn't want to keep the FireChicken (it was a lot ofwork to keep running), so I advertised in the national Pontiac club magazine.I had a couple of feelers, and then got a call from a guy with a Kiwi accentasking about. He said he'd have to fly in to look at it, and could I pick himup at the airport. No problem, things were slow at work that week. He checkedit out, and said he had a couple more to look at. A week later he calls and says he wants to buy it. Turns out he'd been working at mine in the outbackfor two years with nothing to spend money on, and he always wanted a bird.So he flew to LA and started making phone calls. He'd looked at other birdsin Las Vegas and North (maybe South) Carolina. I was nervous about howhe'd pay for it. He'd put a ton of cash in his Master Card account, and dida cash transfer into my checking account. My banker said it was exactly thesame as giving me cash, and was glad it stayed under $10K because therewould be a ton of federal paperwork if it hit $10K.

He drove off in it. The waterpump packed up as he drove into his LA motel, but, no worries, mate, he walked across the stree to Pep Boys (or whatever)and bought a pump and tools, and swapped it out (his job at the mine wasmechanic). He then put it in a container and shipped it to NZ.

And yes, I understand that Kiwis are from NZ and the outback is in Oz.I've been both places for a total of about three months, and both haveGREAT people. If somebody starts a thread on good samaritans, I've gotthree tales from down under and one from the USA (with 59 years in theUSA, and three months down under).

meh i dont think mine will be any fun but here it goes

late august 07 i was offered to buy a 94 civic si coupe for $2200 off one of my good friend's sister's boyfriend,i wasnt quite sure since i wanted to save up for a something a little nicer like a maxima/I30.I met her bf who told me all about the car so i decided to check it out at the shop were it was in the process of getting the engine swapped to a integra gsr engine (b18c1).I was sold instantly.I started modding in the coming months till it was written off... slammed suspension+potholes =

Around X-mas time i started car shopping again, still looking for a maxima/I30-35,but with the parents approval this time.I found a 2002 maxima SE which really caught my attention but i couldnt take it for a test drive that day because it the morons at the dealership didnt install all seasons yet,i returned 2 days later and the car was still on summer rubber....at that point im pretty pissed and wanna continue browsing, but since the snow was cleared,my parents noticed the big silver thing sitting behind the Maxima which happens to the pathfinder. Both my parents were sold instantly since they both love SUVs ( my dad drives a 4runner back home) and voila! 1 year and 4 months later it still runs strong!

I don't know. I've lost countless baggies and joints in various cars, never to be seen again. I'm not entirely sure where they go. They just disappear. Then again, the too lazy and too stoned may play a role.
