I don't have any good acquiring stories (other than the REALLY good deal I gotat the dealer on my '95 PF) because I've only bought one used ('70 DatsunPU, bought in about 1980 as a trash hauler, ended up being the daily driver),but I've got a good selling story.
My late wife had an 1987 'vette, and a 1968 Firebird 400 convertible. The 'vetteis still in the garage, but I didn't want to keep the FireChicken (it was a lot ofwork to keep running), so I advertised in the national Pontiac club magazine.I had a couple of feelers, and then got a call from a guy with a Kiwi accentasking about. He said he'd have to fly in to look at it, and could I pick himup at the airport. No problem, things were slow at work that week. He checkedit out, and said he had a couple more to look at. A week later he calls and says he wants to buy it. Turns out he'd been working at mine in the outbackfor two years with nothing to spend money on, and he always wanted a bird.So he flew to LA and started making phone calls. He'd looked at other birdsin Las Vegas and North (maybe South) Carolina. I was nervous about howhe'd pay for it. He'd put a ton of cash in his Master Card account, and dida cash transfer into my checking account. My banker said it was exactly thesame as giving me cash, and was glad it stayed under $10K because therewould be a ton of federal paperwork if it hit $10K.
He drove off in it. The waterpump packed up as he drove into his LA motel, but, no worries, mate, he walked across the stree to Pep Boys (or whatever)and bought a pump and tools, and swapped it out (his job at the mine wasmechanic). He then put it in a container and shipped it to NZ.
And yes, I understand that Kiwis are from NZ and the outback is in Oz.I've been both places for a total of about three months, and both haveGREAT people. If somebody starts a thread on good samaritans, I've gotthree tales from down under and one from the USA (with 59 years in theUSA, and three months down under).
