Hi,

I had a s14 zenki with coilovers and a lsd, but i totalled it, driving in a poor mental condition. not something I plan on repeating. Anyway I'm currently daily driving a E36 328i (cheapest FR sedan) and I'm really thinking about switching back to the s-chassis.

I found a clean s13 hb with a notchtop in it. motor is all stock except for a hks blowoff valve and hks air filter walbro 255 fuel pump, and it's lowered on tein s springs with kyb shocks. the guy is asking $5000. seems like a good deal

Point is: i was trolling through some threads and a guy was telling someone off not to buy a sr20 because they take constant maintenance he didn't think the buyer could do. i'm fairly car savvy, but i don't have any asphalt to work on (just gravel at my parents' house, who are not car savvy) and my only means of getting under a low car is the pos scissor jack it comes with.

What does it take to maintain a SR20det notchtop well?

An oil change lol. It's just like any other motor man.

Its just a normal engine like any other, just make sure to change the oil, coolant(when the time comes) I mean besides that, no need, unless something internally is wrong with the engine.

thanks, I kinda figured it was just another boinger with an oe snail shell, but that other guy made it sound like they put apex seals on it lol.

I also wanted to verify that turbo timers aren't necessary for oe applications unless you're driving by the redline all the time.

You don't NEED one, I've driven my Redtop for the last year without one. If I want my motor to run for a little bit I just sit in my car.

I just warm it up when I'm leaving and sit in it for 30 seconds to let the fluids flow when I'm getting out. That is one thing that I do with my car all the time is warm it up before I start driving. You don't have to, but mine runs much smoother in the morning if I warm it up first. Especially when its 50 or 60 degrees out.

Yeah if you maintain it and replace other things such as belts and oil -- then it should give 100s of thousands miles of good service....

be good to your SR20DET and it will be good to you.....
