Doug - What are you taking right now and what degree are you working on?

I've read both of those. :D

At least those are two decent ones, although I'm not a big fan of the way Dostoyevski(sic?) rambles on a bit in C & P.

Heller's book is a great read, a tattered copy is still sitting in my shelves somewhere.

I got lucky in high school - our required reading was Vonnegut's "Cat's Cradle", an awesome book that is still one of my all-time favorites.

Michael Crichton's got some good stuff... "Jurassic Park", "Sphere", and "Timeline" are three that I just finished reading.

I'm still working on Adams' huge collection tome (the trilogy + 2 other Hitchhiker stories). Right now I'm still stuck on "Life, The Universe, and Everything". I like Adams but he really, really gets unfocused in that volume and it becomes rather difficult to follow.

Hitman: I'm actually going to be a Senior in High School, but it is a college level english class I'm taking.

Meantime: I just finished C & P, and I agree... it's a cool story but Dostoevsky was a little too verbose. I also noticed a few translation errors in it (it was translated fomr Russian).

I'm looking foreward to Catch-22, I've heard from a few different people that it's a good book. It was kind of weird seeing Heller (which is also MY last name) on the book though.

Catch 22 was a great book. I kind of understand Yosurin's plight. Why the hell is everyone trying to kill me?

Attaboy!

I did four years of Honors English in HS, and Clepped out of having to take English in college as a result.

Those classes will pay off more in the "real world" than ANY others you take. The ability to speak and write well is priceless.

Yeah, the class itself doesn't get us college credit, but it prepares us for a test. Towards the end of the school year, like half way through the final quarter, we'll go to KU (University Of Kansas) and take an "Advanced Placement" test. Depending on how well you score, you can get anywhere from one semester to Freshman and Sophmore years of college English done. It's a challenge, but well worth it, IMO

Word of advice to all. DON'T GO TO LAW SCHOOL. The reading is hell. 80 pages of contract law. Small type, double column. OMG, I think I will kill myself. Everynight it is the same crap. 70-100 pages of boring mind numbing words that just become a blur. Don't do law school. If you can't stand your HS and Undergrad reading, you will not make it through law school. I wish I could do my HS AP English class again. To actually read literature would be so nice.

right now i'm reading The More than Complete Hitchhiker's Guide by Douglass Adams, which consists of five novels. next i'll read Mostly Harmless, which is the 5th part of the Hitchhiker trilogy according to the dust jacket. i guess one of the parts in the more than complete guide is not part of the trilogy, cause mostly harmless would make six.

i've read most of the Jack Ryan Tom Clancy books, but they're too short. maybe i just read fast, but none of his books (even the longer ones) takes more than a week to read. i've only been reading the more than complete hitchhikers guide for a week and i'm almost done.

i've read almost everything in my house, guess it's time to go to Half Price Books and check out the clearance shelves. Actually, last semester of college i had a class the required 11+ books, all novels, diaries and things like that. even if only a couple pages were assigned i read the whole thing, no matter how bad it was.

My fianc&#233 has read every Stephen King book that's out there. I've tried to read a few of them, and just can't quite get in to it. I'm might try to read one of the Dark Tower books, but it's pretty low on my list right now.

Besides the Tim Powers book, I'll probably soon start reading (again) the Song of Fire and Ice books by George R R Martin or maybe even The Lord of the Rings.

i used to devour the battletech novels. Michael A. Stackpole was my favorite author. but im a big fan of Lovecraft now, so strange and odd, yet almost hard to understand.
