Does anyone know what the best oil would be for my 1988 300ZX N/A? I have to take it for an oil change real soon, and the owner's manual doesn't specify a kind that works best! help!-Kev

I was told to use 10w 30, Fred.. ? What are my other considerations? Plus I don't think I use full synthetic in my car, the previous owners didn't tell us what kind of oil they last had-Kev

Just put some good quality 10w40 or 10w30 in it - If it was a turbo it'd be different.

Well,..

If you dont wanna use syns or read the links that explain things in detail:

Use Valvoline Durablend 10w-40.The durablend is good solvency, good anti- wear properties, it a bit moe expensive than the all mineral oils, but not as as much as a syn. Also its easily avalable everywhere and a good stable 40 weight which you are likely to need with your VG (maybe even thicker as its an older VG series engine)

Also read the links, there are some lenghty viscosity discussions in there on why not to bother w/ 30 weights in most applications.

Dont use the 30 weight, it wil still do its job but with an older VG series engine <and > summer coming you will need a 40 weight such as a 10w-40 as a minimum.

being an older VG means nothing you tell me the diffrence between older VG30E and newer VG30E.?? nada beside full floating wrist pins. 30w will work just fine . he also only has 82,XXX miles.

If u can't swing the Durablend (2.30 $ most placves), the Castrol GTX is actually very good also (1.80$ most places and it is much improved from the last few years) but likely not as good as teh Valvoline Durablend.

All VG's should have 40 weight oils in summer or year around in mild climates.

Actually despite the wave of 30weight propaganda in recent years few engines wont be better protected w/ a 40 weight.
