In the very unlikely event that an engine would have an internal failure during the short warranty period, I strongly suspect a manufacturer would be looking for any opportunity to deny the warranty claim. If you can't show proof of oil changes following the required OCI of 7500 miles, Nissan would deny warranty coverage.
36,000 miles will come soon enough, and then when the warranty is out, go with an OCI beyond 7500 miles if oil analysis shows it to be ok.

What's wrong with the Nissan filter? Filters are filters, why take the chance of Nissan blaming your non-factory approved part for whatever malfunction just to save a few bucks?

It is tough to actually prove if one brand of filter would work better than another. Concerning the Nissan filter, I prefer to avoid "made in China" parts on any car of mine. There are way too many examples of horrible quality control with Chinese products (food, toys, tools, tires, etc.). Why take the chance?
