Hey I've been running my car for a while now nothing to serious little race here and there and never really payed attention to my launch. So far I've tried launching at 3000rpm and just spin like crazy. I tried 2000 and I basicly dont take off. I've been launching at 2500 and I was wondering if that was good rpm set to launch at. I have stock 15" rims with stock 195/65 tires (I need tires and rims I know) But for now I'm on a very tight budget. Do you guys have any suggestions?

I ask because my races so far have all been for fun, I am planning on running a Civic Si with mods unknown?

My setup is as follows:red top Sr20, HKS FMIC, stock boost, 3" downpipe with open header, open Diff. Blitz BOV. HKS air filter.

Thanks any help is greatly appreciated.

By the way at what rpms do you launch? with what mods and wheels?

well, i suggest u get an LSD and that should solve a lot of problems rite there, and as far as wheels and tires, yes u need bigger, but 2500 sounds about right, i used to launch my 89 at about 2600 or so, and just feather the clutch out a lil and got pretty good 60' times.

Gah!!!!

Kids like that blow almost as much as their parents, who give them what they want and encourage the wack attitudes that usually develop.

Hmmmm, I had my first real race with the car, got so nervous that I had the damn thing up to 5000rpm and dropped the clutch. I was riding on winter tires too. FMIC, BOV, 11psi, 3inch everything. Man, I was spinning all the way accross the intersection. :D it was great. That mustang didn't even know what just rapped him. Hahhahhahaha.

learn how to feather, that is the best thing to learn when it comes to skill...at least i think, it took me a long time, and it changes when you do a major up grade, the feel i mean, so just go out some where, and practice

a good launch, you will not spin your tires very much.

4500. Nitto 555r drag radials.

feather the clutch like prev said for best results if possible.

you want he rear end to squat, and the tires to be warm before hand, and minimum tire spin.

ok so make the tires spin hard and smoke beforehand to warm them up?And what does "feather" the clutch mean?

so i guess I'll buy these: http://www.zracer.com/camaro/n...s.htm

what kind of rims are you using?

there are other drag radials, ie. bf goodrich, etc....but NITTO's usually have group buys if you search around

http://www.groupbuycenter.com etc

I use lightweight 16" rims for my drag radials, like 11-12lbs each

i meant feather the throttle while letting the clutch out, dunno why i said that...

If you can slip the clutch out (if you dont have a iron clutch), it will help the launch (also limit the life of the clutch), dumping the clutch, as opposed to letting it out slow will cause the tires to break loose, slowing your 60ft time.

Its a trial and error process, takes practice to see what rpm is best to launch at (no way to know before you break something), and how slow or fast to let out the clutch, and feather throttle (dont just slam it to the floor) try to make the tires grab.

it means controlling how fast you let it out while gassing it. you dont want to drop it but you want to let it out fast while feathering the throttle. but not too fast or your tires will spin too much.

interesting choice for a 1st manual. turbos can be tricky to launch if you dont have a lot of experience with a manual. the other trick with turbos is learing to shift quickly so you can stay on boost.

probably the easiest vehicle to learn to drive a manual transmission on is a truck. the typically low gearing and abundance of torque makes launching easy.

a car with a peaky high RPM powerband would probably be the hardest to learn on. or a car with a BIG turbo
