We're getting some snow already here in DE, pretty unusual, and i think its going to be worse. Anyhow, this isn't for me, but for my bf's mom. She owns a Scion TC (fwd) it has the OEM Bridgestone RE92 which are the crappiest tires they make. They're dangerous in anything besides dry conditions.

Anyhow, she's on a budget and wants to aim for something lower than $100/per tire. I looked at winter tires for her already and all of them are $120+ for her rim size. So I find it cheaper for her to just go with an all-season. Here's what I got so far as good buys: Avon M550 A/S ($96), and the Falken Ziex 512 ($75), the Avon's had far better reviews/stats. TireRack doesn't sell Falkens so I know nothing about them except they're kind of soft, but decent in rain/dry. I keep hearing Toyo's make some good all-seasons.

Any thoughts? Personal experiences?

Yes indeed. Much love for the Toyos. I have not tried them in the snow however. My s13 is tucked away in the insulated garage for the winter. So happy to have a garage now.

We put Kumho Ecsta ASX's on my wife's Saab and they have performed very well. My dad put them on his Olds as well and has had no problems.

I have Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 and they are FANTASTIC wet or dry! I just got Pirelli P Zero Nero on my g/f's car and they are also great in the wet. The Nitto NT555's she had SUCKED in the wet.

Ugh, i just realized i wrote 214 in the title. I meant 215/45/17. Anyhow, she's still running the unholy RE92's. Only thing I've found so far that can meet the snow criteria were the Avon Tech all season tires.

All season does not mean snow or ice, it refers to the temperature range over which the rubber can function.

Branded with "Snowflake on the Mountain" symbol, are tires suitable for snow and ice, obviously these tires are not suitable for dry warm weather thus All Season, then Summer Tires for warm/hot conditions.

If one is concerned with optimum performance.

i have continental contiextremecontacts in that exact size you are looking for on a 7in wide rim. I LOVE EM' i thought going from a thinner tire to a wider (195/65 to 215/45) would be worse for snow but not the case here. I went from goodrich touring ta's to these, so much better (abs hardly kicks in anymore)the stats are 420 treadwear AA traction and A temperature. 125 a piece thoughonly problem i cant find them anymore or the rims i put them on (kinda cool to know that i may have that only setup though) .

thats what i have on my 01 cavalier though (five bolt) wont transfer to my s13
