I have had overheating problems, so I recently took my car to the shop. After getting it back I noticed that it ran great but now idles at 2000 RPM and when I turn the key off it shakes funky as the RPMs drop to 0. Before I took it in it idles at 1000RPM and shut off fine. Any thoughts?

I"m not a pro, but idle i think shoudl be at around 800 or 750.

Idling at 2,000 is not good. Might be over-advanced. Take it to the same tuneup place and have them take care of it. Then make sure their head shop guy sees what gets done.

If your car is advanced with the same idle-screw setting, it will go up like that. Thats what I'm guessing. This can give you a lot more 'snap' in your engine.... especially in the lower RPMs... right until your engine blows.. lol

Get it fixed. If you don't trust the shop, go to another one.

(I hope I'm not way off.. someone who knows a lot should come on here and refute what i've said or agree)

Cheers,8

2000 rpm is way high for an idle on a car. i would deff take it back to the shop and say hey somthing is wrong with my idle sence you had it. that high idle can lead to bad things in the future.

a ka24de/e should idle @ 700+-50, along with some other nissan engines.

high idle will wear the engine faster, and if not enough cooling, it will make it overheat, also 2k rpm idle will waste a lot of gasoline.

around 700, gets down to 600 sometimes. i was looking at the stickers on the bottom of the hood today and noticed it states what the idle should be at/ 700 for either auto or manual. also found out what free on i have (R-12), so now i can get it removed! yay

Sometimes it idles at 700...Sometimes it idles at 1200. I have no idea why. I am just happy because it starts up every time I turn the key.

Oh hey.. i don't mean to threadjack, but when I was destroying all the emisssions in my engine bay, i also took out my A/C unit and there was this leak of gas. My bro and I both got a few good whiffs.. is that stuff real bad?

PM me if you think i'm gonna die.

its bad, really bad, usually you take your car to a pro to get the a/c recharged or stuff like that, hopefully you got out and got some air.

btw my car idles @ smooth 700rpm+-(by consult), it used to not idle right because i used to have a bad coupler going from my intake to my throttle body, but that got fixed.

lol, hahaha, i know you're serious, but that's sig worthy, not for mine though, not my style. what also makes it extra funny to me is that my bro did the same to my car, i got out of the way though before i inhaled any of it. only leaked a second before he tightned it back up again. but yes it is very bad to inhale, but if you didn't notice any side effects you should be okay< also not a doctor though

I was lucky when I was taking out my A/C. I opened it up, but it was completely empty, I wonder why it wasn't working, haha. I guess I could've gotten it recharged, but I decided to take it out anyway.

Regarding the topic, my car idles exactly at 700rpm, and I did my timing by eye.

With A/C on, 1000 rpm.

With it off, between 700 and 750 rpm.

inhaling freon is usually only dangerous if it is burning, and you inhale the resulting gasses.

i have inhaled straight r134a before. it smells sweet...

deliberately inhaling the entire contents of a can or the ac system might be a different story.

my VQ idles at 750

Thanks guys! I figured it out today once the sun came up. When they fiddled with the upper radiator hose they must have knocked the little rubber piece loose from the throttle cable where it connects to the throttle body...that rubber piece slid down the cable and got stuck on the throttle body causing it to not idle down properly. I just slid it back up the cable, snapped it into place, and whalla! No more idle probs. Thanks everyone! Oh, and dude...drugs are bad...no more inhalents for you!

that was just a few times in high school when i realised "air in a can" [R134a] will get you high...
