Just trying to see if I need to adjust my throttle position voltage at all. Idles are fine (bumped to 650-680 during neutral idle without a/c on), and this is after adjusting timing.

However at cold startup, engine jumps to maybe 1,700 for a couple seconds. I’ve also caught it stuck at 1,800 almost 2,000 during periods of frigid weather. But that was last year, before I adjusted timing.

i suppose it’s meant to rev during cold startup. Once warmed up. I think I only jump to about 1,500 for a brief second. But I feel like I used to only go up to 1,000. Just making sure in case…

Answering my own question here but: I had to adjust the voltage to the TPS by rotating it a bit more to the middle like the closed throttle one. I read the FSM about idle setting and relearning but: I also find the idle adjusts itself with the timing after about 500 miles. So I’ll have to see after a couple weeks what it does.

My NorthStar vehicle has electronically adjusted TPS and IAC so whenever it’s replaced, there’s no fussing with adjustments. Hopefully this will get my idle just where it needs to be when in drive and at startup.

I can’t get my Maxima to cooperate fully when adjusting the idle though. I had to turn the TPS and idle screw almost all the way in to keep it from idling too high and revving. Tried several other things but, might be a vacuum leak in the booster.

Late to this but mine aggressively revs up to 1700RPM on startup, quickly settles to around 1100rpm and then slowly drops down to warm idle.
Something is a little noisy on startup, sounds like a bearing on a belt but I haven't been able to chase it out.

Hey just seeing your post. Thanks for posting!

So after my adjustment: I did the drive around for 500 miles. I did notice my IACV valve was set a little high, 680-725. So I had to back it off just a smidge to the 650-675 that the manual recommends. I was getting too high start up idle, and noticing my startup gas mileage bad (I think I lost a half gallon of gas today just by starting up and driving a mile down the road)

I just did it today so I won’t know what the cold start is yet. However, the issue with stalling has been adjusted with tps bolts in the middle of the groove. As the temperatures get cooler, the Q gets really finicky about cold starts so I have to really make sure it’s all within the service manual spec. Overly high cold start idle during cold weather = a gallon of gas lol.

With the engine having 4 belts, it can be pretty tricky trying to figure out individual squeaks. If you haven’t had your power steering pump or compressor replaced ever: those might be things to check. There’s another thread that I wrote about checking belt tension and adjusting the bolts. But that will be more of a startup squeal than a grinding noise
