It has to do with how the diff "locks" under acceleration and braking.
A 2-way LSD will "lock" for both accelerating and slowing down, great for drifting but can cause some funny handling otherwise.
A 1.5-way LSD will "lock" on acceleration and partially lock under decel, this is more ideal for grip applications, where you may be decelerating under turning and don't need the rear axle fighting you.
Most clutch-type diffs are also adjustable in that you an change the configuration of the clutch-disks within the diff to affect how much % lock. 100% lock would act like a welded, 50% lock would allow some slipping, and everything in between. The Nismo diff is actually adjustable without removing the pumpkin, but this isn't available for the 240SX.
As far as prices, around here this is generally what the difs go for...
Welded $50
Viscous (from a J30 or some Z32) $100 - $300
Helical (from a S15 SpecR) $400 - $700
Clutch Type (Kaaz, Tomei, used Nismo, Cabronetic, etc) $1000ish new, $700 used
