So, my local junkyard has a new Q and I'm thinking of going to pull some "spare" parts from what hasn't been scavenged. I heard it's already picked over, but I was wondering what spare parts to pull and keep around should opportunities arise. Of course I'm on the lookout for newly replaced parts like the idler pulley that looks like it must have been replaced days before it came to the yard.

I went ahead and pulled a plenum off a 94 and plan to grab the valve covers too. Just in case I want to make them pretty.

ECU and TCUare all years the same or should I make sure I pick on the same as mine?

Injectors and Fuel RailsOf course there's no way to ohm them (or is there) in the yard, but would it be worth it to pull some and have them on hand for sometime in the future?

Fuel Pump and FPCUare all years the same or should I make sure I pick on the same as mine? What are warning signs that these are bad?

Master Cylinder I heard that some of the earlier model Qs had a tokiko master cylinder which was really good and better than the models on the newer Qs (94-96). Again, what are things to look for to see if it's bad.

coil packsare all years the same or should I make sure I pick on the same as mine? What are warning signs that these are bad?

I mean if a Q rolls in and I'm there, what should I grab to refurb or something. There's a 94 that's been picked over and a 92 that may not be total canibalized.

Definately a MAF sensor. Just as a spare or you could sell them to the 240sx guys. Also the throttle body is a good part to sell off.

Eventually you'll find it less expensive to keep a few wrecks in your back yard, guest bedroom, or at rental space/friends farm................same color and same vintage [90-93] or [94-96].

The part you don't have will eventually fail................just because you don't have it!

If I could find another 94 black/black Q I'd buy it for parts and find a place for it. But they just aren't that plentiful here. If you find one for me...

seems as if 95 & 96 parts are least in supply. probably due to low production #s or because that is what i own.

I would concentrate on grabbing electronic modules{ecu,tcu,fpcu,lan controls,etc}

I dont understand the logic in using anything from a junk car that involves moving parts such as alternators/starters/compressors/pumps/fans/fan clutches/pullys/motors/etc....how do you know they arent just as worn as the ones you want to replace? Buying a brand new part seems the safest way to ensure long life and avoiding duplicating labor.

So far in 209,000 miles, I have only 1 used part in my entire q45, a windsheild wiper amplifier {relay}

I must agree. While my DIY skills are not up to your guys' level, I think that even if they were I would not want to use used parts.

Mine has 148K and the only used part on it is the sunroof assembly. It cost me $125 shipped to San Diego from Sacramento plus $400 for Jerry to put it on. The dealer wanted the equivalent of a small deposit on a house.

Danny, just so happens I pulled a few spare parts off of a 94 black/black this weekend in the Austin area. It was wrecked and picked over but still some good parts left. Are you looking for anything in particular? I'd be happy to take a look for you (or maybe I already grabbed something you need). Are you looking for any specific black interior or exterior parts?

I was thinking along the same lines as you in looking for a parts car when I found this one. I think I made out pretty well. I got lots of little things I needed e.g. sunroof switch, instrument cluster (for the Diagnostic Information Display module), air mix door motor, antenna motor assembly, fog lights, rear speakers (hoping for one with a good amp), door lock controller, etc.

I also ended up with the entire engine and most of the attached accessories, radiator, electric fan, ABS unit, ECU, misc. sensors, etc.

To think this all started when I went looking for a single good injector!

I'd add to the list a full set of window regulators. I know they're a moving part and a pain to remove, but with some cleanup and lube they'll slide as good as new. As suggested also grab the LAN's out of each door while you're there.

My "Not For Sale" stash also includes brake lamp modules, cig lighter elements, door hinge covers, injector harness, injector caps, MAF connector, plenum bolts, power transistor, rotors, and the usual MAF, FP, FPCU, ECU, FI's, etc. Have fun picking.

Use your ohm meter on the two terminals of the injector. The battery does not need to be connected.

Depending on how long you want to drive:Diff, driveshaft, transmission, F&R wheel bearings, lower and third links, ABS hundreds of things will wear out.

I managed to pick up a reman alternator and a like new AC compressor on ebay for next to nothing. And I'll continue to keep an eye out for other spares. Reading this site gives one a good id of what parts are failing...and whether or not aftermarket and used parts are suitable.
