Looking at getting new pistons to put in when the engine goes back together. I'm not looking to create a bunch of power, more than likely 250-300hp would be the highest i'd ever go. Are there any pistons that i can purchase thru the dealership that will work? Any recommendations on anything? I'm looking at getting a complete engine gasket set from nissan for ~180 for a DE, rings are ~100, ~45 for the main bearing set and ~75 for the connecting rod bearings. Does that sound about right? Are the OE parts as good/better than something i'd buy at Bap-geon? Thanks

wiseco forged would be easy to get for you in the states i would think as they are already made to suit the CA18deti would not consider anything but forgies, even if you dont plan yet... to put that much boost in it.

Nissan can't get that gasket set anymore. You'll be like me and wait on backorder indefinatly(tried ordering it multiple times). Hell i worked there and I couldn't even get a hold of it... I ended up just ordering all the gaskets individually (more money) but you'll actually get your stuff. Rings and bearings are easy to get a hold of, but stuff like headgaskets are becoming rare... might try sourcing someone else for your gasket set.

http://www.raceeng.com/Keeps CA18DET pistons in stock in either, stock or .5mm (.020in) overbore. Thats where I'm getting mine from, only it's custom so I'm having to wait. Talk to a guy by the name of John and tell him that I (Ryan Boatwright with NICO) sent you over there. He might hook you up a little, not sure.

I bought pistons from Race Engineering, they took about 6 weeks (custom, 1mm overbore), mine were made by CP Pistons.

Don't be suprised if you have to wait to talk to John tho, the few times I called he was always on the phone with other people too, had to wait about 5 min or so.. he's Mr Popular

They're listed in the Sport Compact - Pistons - Race Engineering section.

They're all custom for RE but they stock (or generally try to) the normal piston size. $449/set for the ones they stock, more if you want custom (i.e. compression ratio or larger overbore like mine)

449 is pretty good. Anyone got a reasonable guess of how much we can bore out our motors.

Well if you're feeling crazy I hear that the NISMO race-only piston's are 85mm, but that is a 2mm overbore and if you'd like your motor to last a while I wouldn't do it. Most people who get oversized pistons either get 83.5mm/84mm pistons. I can tell you for a fact that the CA pistons with custom bore and compression ratio will run you about $625. I should have mine first thing next week.

thats what i paid for my JE customs - 84mm w/ total seal rings....

i emailed them a spec sheet i got for some JUN CA18DET pistons and they pretty much copied them i think... i'll dig around for the specs...

Did the total seal rings cost extra as opposed to the rings they normally would have supplied you with? Also, do you have any pictures of the pistons? Just wanna have a look at the design used.

Hey Ryan, your getting 83.5mm right. They have them for 449 on their site. I was considering getting them, will these drop in right? Since they're located in west palm beach (I think) hopefully I can just go pick them up and not worry about shipping. My car is smoking pretty bad so its parked until I can get some pistons in it. So I guess I would like some opinions on whether to get the 83mm or go ahead and get the 83.5 since they are the same price. I think I'll be ordering them tomorrow so if they have them instock I will just go pick them up.

So then you can get the 83.5mm pistons with rings and pins for $449 plus shipping?

http://www.raceeng.com/showIte...=RACE from the bottom its the 10th and 11th one up. It says 449 and if you click on the link to the right it says "In Stock". Im not sure how much shipping is though. Though since I live in south florida I'm hoping they dont have a problem with local pick-up because the sooner I get'em the better.

That is the reason that mine cost so much more. Just remember that if the you get the oversized pistons, you'll have to pay to have the block bored out to fit them. Not too big a deal, but just don't be suprised.

To anyone that has the race eng. pistons....Are they flat topped or "U" shaped. I really would prefer "U" shaped pistons but i can't find any for a decent price so i may end up going with flats if i have too.

the engine shop called wiseco and spoke to someone he knows very well there. Said there's nothing there for the motor and it'd have to be custom <shrug>

the ones they stock are flat (like stock), they can make to custom. the ones I have are CP, wiseco has made pistons for people in the UK etc but its not something they have on file as a stock part # to order up, they're always custom runs basically (people always ordering different bores and CR's) so they don't keep them as a listed # since they're short runs, they're not stocking these by the 100's or 1000's...

the Race Engineered or whatever it was pistons category are all custom made for RE, but may be JE, Wiseco or CP depending IIRC. If you look at the description of the category where it lists all the piston catergories for sport compact, it should say what the part codes stand for, they indicate who makes them. They can make anything the way you want it, for a price, of course.

The pistons should all be forged I'd think, since they're aftermarket. Certainly the ones made for the CA are.

ah, heck. I guess i will just have to stick with the flats as i can't afford crazy money for a custom setup. Either way, i already wanted the Pauter rods so now i can get them both in the same place and same a few bucks. Thanks for all the info gentlemen!

From my old "Got my engines" turned "got [insert name here] part(s)" thread:

I also got a top-down picture of my box but that's been done in this thread already

Mine were 84mm (1mm overbore) flat top (so not stock CR anymore, because CR goes up when you overbore and all else stays equal, should be in the ballpark of 8.7:1 ish)
