The upper strut bearing is shot. It might be a good time to upgrade the suspension. Those struts have seen better days. The ball bearings come from the upper strut bearing. Looks like there's some heavy corrosion going on. Do the roads get salted where you live?

If you're sticking with stock springs, I'd recommend some KYB GR2 struts, at least one KYB strut mount and replacement KYB strut boots. Now, I don't know what the other side looks like, but if it were me, I'd probably replace both mounts and both struts, since the ones in your picture look they've been in there well past their prime.

With the amount of corrosion you've got there, I'd replace the two nuts and bolts down at the knuckle and the three nuts on the top of the strut tower. The GR2 shocks will come with the nut that goes on the top of the piston rod. Rent a macpherson strut spring compressor from Autozone (it's free) and you'll be all set.

I'd make sure of the integrity of the strut tower too. That *is* a lot of corrosion.

As C-Kwik said, those bearing fell right out of your decimated strut mount. That thing looks like utter ****!

if you're gonna upgrade shocks, do them in at least a pair (front and front, or rear and rear). I would prefer to do all four at once just because it saves a bit of time and you get the proper effect of upgrading suspension.

the roads are very salted here, since ive owned the car it hasnt touched the salted streets, thats partly being that its not insured.i am goign to replace them with OEM struts cause i cant afford insurence let alone upgrades. most of the corrosion appears to be surface and not deep on the tower

heres the drivers tower

less corrosion and structurally solid

Soo i need to replace my:Passanger side strut (or upper ball join if i cant afford the new strut)Strut hat.. what else

If the one side is that bad, odds are the other side is not far behind. I would do both sides and play it safe. You're looking at only $54.00 each for the KYB GR2's (likely less than the dealer)and $61.00 for the mounts per side. We've got all that in stock:

You should really just save the money up and fix it properly. It's kind of an important part of your car. When it comes to suspension and brakes, IMO, it becomes a big safety issue. In the end, of course, it's up to you.
