I'm about to put new brakes on my car. I'm doing z brakes in the front and stocks in the back, slotted rotors all around, and I'm having trouble deciding on what pads to use. I'm trying to decide between hawk HPS and HP+. I'm looking for something with good bite, good pad life, and not too hard on the rotors. This car is my daily, but I'm looking into auto-x and maybe tracking later this year. And suggestions are appreciated.

the harder the pads bite, the harder they are going to be on the rotors. there's no way around that. if you can find em, axxis metal master are a great performance street pad. they bite pretty good (even better after they've been warmed up from one good stop) , will last a while (had mine almost 2 years or so) and arn't too bad on the rotors. If you can't find them, the HPS pads are your best bet. the HP+ pads might be ok on the street, but you're going to burn through them and rotors faster than you probably want to. Plus the dust either the hps or hp+ kick out is more than the axxis.

Z32 brakes in the front and stocks in the rear....bad idea since it will be unbalanced.

^ Not really. The BMC determines the brake bias. Using the stock BMC will yield a similar bias although the Z32's will bite much harder the rears have all the bite you need. There is no problem with running mismatched.

Well, it's fine if he sets it up properly..but then again, most of the people I know just think they can swap q45s for the front and leave the rear stock. I've never felt a car understeer so horribly, lol.

HPS pads are pretty decent. I'm using HPS pads on slotted Brembo Sport rotors. They are pretty nice, and I can lock up all the wheels at any given time. It's a decent streetable setup, but after and autox or hard spirited driving, they heat up a little too much and it's easy to tell. I LOVE the HP pads, but you have to warm them up a bit before you can really wish to have sex with them........If you don't mind mashing the brake pedal in normal traffic along with a little bit of noise, then go for the HP. If you want to stay streetable and have pads that can take some aggressive driving, go HPS.
