Ok so well all know the 300zx brakes and 5 lugs can go on the 240, i've also heard of people using the skyline brakes. But is there a way too get other car companies brakes/hubs to fit. Like, say a 6lug viper wheel and brake upgrade, or an AMG Merc 8piston caliper brake setup? I know out here in AZ there arn't many wrecked top end (75k+) cars, but i'm sure in cali they can be found. Would a setup like either of these take massive amounts of work and thousands of dollars and simply be not worth it?

To my knowledge, NO. The reason behind this is that the shap of the hub is different on Mercedes, and Dodges. You can't just swap hubs either because you have to have spindles. I suppose that you chould have custom hubs made at 200+ a piece (probaly a lot more)

Why is your reason for this though?

Q45 brakes would be tight, though.

I was just thinking about people always going 5 lug, then I thought "wait...vipers are 6 lug though" and I have never heard of a 6 lug 240sx. Just something originial is all. Oh and the insane stopping power. A story told to me once of an old *** porsche, like sub 1970s having the engine rebuilt and "$10,000 brakes" put on and whooping modern 90s cars on the track simply because he could brake so much better came to mind. But that story was probably totall BS. Just a thought.

To me, getting a 300zx Brembo kit would be a better way to spend my money then to custom do some other brakes.

well you could try to modify the rotors to fit, but even then, the calipers probably will not bolt up and who knows what kind of offset you need with something like that. You could possibly make some adapters for the calipers, but all said and done, it may not be as cheap as you might hope. There was a 240 years ago that had some Porsche brakes on it.

As far as high end car brakes being available, I'd say it's not nearly as easy to find as you think. Even in Cali. Consider the high end vehicles cost a lot more and are harder to total out. Secondly, they are actually fairly rare amongst the sea of cars here in Cali.

While they are not all that available yet in the junkyards, you may look to trying to snatch up some Brembos off a 350Z track model or a 6-Speed Leather G35 Coupe. The new 2004 Sentra SE-R Spec V has 12" Brembos available as well from the factory. I think the rotors are 4-lug, but I'm not sure if the bolt pattern is 4x114 or 4x100.

The Q45 brake upgrade is another simple and somewhat cost-friendly choice. A search might give you some info on this not-so-well known option.

I agree, the Q45 upgrade would be more than enough for anyone wanting to upgrade the performance of the brake system on a 240SX. While all things are possible with enough cash and the proper tools, it would be $$$ that could be put to better use upgrading other suspension, body work, and engine components to get a totally unique car. The 2004 Spec V has a 4-114 but also has a very high offset hub/wheel setup and you would be looking at at least 17" to clear those calipers.

The Q45 brakes are 2piston NA 300zx brakes I believe, or similar.

the Z32 300zx all used 4 piston calipers. They are a high caliper design like the Brembos and do require proper backspacing in the wheel for fit as Grant mentioned. This is the option most people take as it is cheap and plentiful and provides a ton more fade resistance.

u can always try to get the jdm s14 k's brakes. Its very similar to z32 brakes. Its 4 piston. Even though it might not be as nice as z32 brakes, it can get the job done if your around or a little above stock boost. The jdm s14 brakes are cheaper too.

Sentra's spec v bolt pattern is 4x114.3, the brakes will fit but the brake line's MAY need to be modified. The brake upgrade can be acquired from a Nissan Dealership for $1000. I got that quote from a friend who owns a 2002 Sentra Spec V.. he spoke to the dealership about it.. but if we were to buy it seperately I do not know how much it would cost..im sure it would cost a bit more

most of the Skyline, Silvia, and Z brakes from around the early 90's til the end of their doom all use the same brake calipers...well the difference is either 30mm or 26(?)mm sizes and either aluminum or iron. i bought S15 30mm for only 170 for both sides.

there is a guy on the freshalloy boards that did 6 piston Proche(?) brakes...very very sick. also why would you want 6 lugs? try searching around for rims for those...very hard.

wow, saucy for a n00b. You really should think about why you need big brakes..because 99% of the people who ask about them..DON'T.I'm just saying people really do need to think about why you need the upgrade.

so..thanks for the quip. attitude noted.-chet
