What or how is the Q45 VVT activated???

Trying to figure out if its done by rpm or mph, and what actually activates the solenoids.

Im sorry I just bid on a SR20VE, got it mixed up with the Q, almost the same principal. just that the VE has an extra lobe on the cams and works almost exactly like Hondas VTECH. And Nissan calls it VVL on the SR motors.

The VVT operates in gear between idle and 4600RPMs, if the temp is 158-230*F, and if the engine load is high.
