i just bought a 89 240, im going to change the oil in it tomorrow, i was just wondering what you all thought would be the better oil ro run, it has 175xxx on it, runs really good, it has a slight oil leak, maybe from the front crake seal, the engine is bone stock, i was thinking about running 10 40 in it. im not sure, any suggestions would be apreciated

Thanks

Mobil 1 or Royal Purple, 10w40 or 5w40 is what I use, a tad expensive but always makes my engine feel fresh.

Supposedly Castrol GTX is good but i dont have experience with it.

you probably wouldnt want to run synthetic, it'd cause more of a leak than what u already have

Not always, if you use a heavier weight it will actually prevent/stop leaks

I personally use Mobil 1 15W-50 but that’s because I live in cali and its always very hot

for summer go Mobil 1 15W-50 or 10W-40 for winter 5W-30 or 5W-40

Go a bit thicker cuz syummer+ hih miless needs thciker oil by at least one notch.

SO 10w-30 recommended = 10w-40.

since you leak no sense usung expensive oil The <best> inexpensive oil for your applciation is Chevron Supreme 10w-40 .$1.50 /qt at walmart(or if not on budget Mobil1 0w-40)

I recommend AMSOIL 20W-50. Best oil you can feed your car.

actually, running synthetic on older engines (especially one that is leaking) may not be a great idea. Synthetics are slipperier than dino oil so they can run through rings and cause all sorts of leakage.

here is a good explanation of synthetic vs dino oil by a NASA engineer.http://forums.yellowworld.org/....html
