I have been using Mobil 1 10w-40 since I was living in Florida. But now that I live in the VA/DC area, I am considering switching to 5w-30. The manual says 5w where temps can reach 0 degrees. So my question is...How many of you (ESPECIALLY THOSE UP NORTH) are using 5w and how many are using 10w, why? Your help is greatly appreciated.

Switch to 5w. I am in NH. I know what zero feels like.

You definitely need 5W-30 up in colder country.

In fact, I would also recommend Mobil 1 0W-40, since you are now in the North and also use/like Mobil 1 presently.

Agreed. 5W-30 at a minimum. 0W-40 perfered for places with sub zero winters.

Not hyping up Mobil 1, but they do have some good videos...

Picked up a few cases of 5w at Costco.

$23 for a case of 6, with a their monthly coupon.

Is that for Mobil 1 5W-30? If so, that is a good deal!

Yes 5w. Every few months Costco puts out a coupon for $10 off their cases (limit 3). They have 5w-30 and 10w-40 for $33. My wife and I each get a coupon, so we each pick up 3 cases, which last us quite a while.

If you want an even better deal, every couple months Advance Auto Parts does 5 quarts of M1 extended performance and a M1 filter for $21.99.
