You SUCK!!!!....sigh, maybe someday I have a turbo/supercharger waiting for me

I would do the following with FI:

Get a larger oil pan. It will be easier to drill the oil line with it out anyway.

Definitely switch to synthetic...I recommend Royal Purple 10W-40.

Congrats on the Turbo! Pics please

Thanx guys ive been looking forward to this turbo since i bought the car last year. I hope the install goes well. Work is crying to have me back to the middle east very soon and im going to miss my baby G. Im hoping i can get it all installed and tuned before i head back. It also is in need of a clutch baaad!

Unfortunately i dont have time order another oil pan. Is it a hard job to get the stock oil pan off? I havent even crawled under this thing before. I used to be a heavy duty mechanic and always hated working on cars. Thats all changing. Dont worry i will get lotsa pics and try for some video. Ive got some bad input on Turbonetics already. Their customer service sucks my ars!

Oh one more question does anyone have any service manuals in PDF format. Id really like to know how to get my console apart without destroying it. I installed my XM radio yesterday and couldnt get the console apart the way i wanted.

Cheers all Happy Thanks giving!!

Definitely get an oil pan spacer then. You'll need extra oil to keep the turbo's happy.

So civi contractor huh...that explains the cash! I was going to do that, but my last trip to Iraq while in the military kind of turned me off. Be safe!

Im a manager for an oil service company. Its not that i really have alot of money this is part of my tax return last year that ive been setting aside for this moment. Its just a single turbo system so shouldnt require too much more oil. I will get another oil pan soon aswell as maybe a oil cooler. But for now it will remain stock. I wont be doing any hard driving until i get a new clutch anyways and ill keep the boost down for now. OHHHH but dont worry ill be needing a new set of tires soon. Cant wait to get her on the track!

Hey Joe i know its off topic but i was wondering about your Sub box. Did you build it yourself? Iv got a set of 10'' MTX subs and a 350 Watt amp ive been wanting to install but really havent been impressed with any of the sub boxes ive seen. Do you still have plans on yours? Also what kind of a job is it to pull signal off the back deck speakers to run to my amp. I know Bose runs different Ohmage whats the deal with that?

Definitely use a good synthetic oil. Turbos run pretty hot and mineral oil can leave carbon deposits which can ruin the bearings as mineral oil breaks down at lower temperatures than synthetics. If the turbo is not water-cooled, run a turbo timer as well.

Sorry, I don't have plans for the box...I had it custom built. It shouldn't be that difficult to build though. The amp is where the spare tire was, under Plexiglas. For the amp input signal, the rear seat "sub" are used. As long as the amp can accept high-level (speaker) inputs it will work. The bose speakers run 2 ohm speakers, but the amp is just a normal amp. It isn't too hard to disconnect the speakers, solder wire leads to your amp location.

There are other options...A few companies make a stock stereo deck interface that provides 5 volt preamp inputs. They level out the curve of the deck.

How long ya gonna be in the sand box? I'll probably be going early 08 for a yearish give or take. You know where you'll be exactly (no specifics of course). Just curious if we're gonna be in the same place or anything. We can get together and drown our sorrows on some non-alcoholic beer (no alcohol allowed in most middle-east countries, grrr ) HAHA.....have a good trip! and good luck with the turbo.

Oh and synthetic ftw btw if you didn't already catch that

Im heading back to Saudi Arabia in the next few weeks i would think. If yer ever in the Bahrain or Dammam area let me know we can go smoke some shisha at my favorite hauka lounge ill buy ya a barbican.

I purchased some Royal Purple 10W40 today and tomorrow i pickup my turbo. I will look into getting a large oil sump soon. Turbo timer will definately be in order aswell. Too much to buy so little time.

It's funny...I've been to all those places

Have fun with the install...you're brave to try a turbo install yourself! (I would do a supercharger...but not a turbo). Be safe in the sandbox...

Meh i dont think the install will be too bad its the turbonetics so its only a single turbo that sits upfront and ontop. Ive got a good friend of mine that has experience aswell so im sure with a case of beer we can mash through it in a few days. Its an 8-10 hr install acording to the manufacturer. Ill add a day just cause we gotta eat turkey in there somewhere.

Yes single is much easier, but you still have to take off the stock exhaust manafolds right? That's the hard part.

I did a header install on a late model F-body (LT1 engine) and that was a complete nightmare!! Hopefully the car gods will shine on you

Actually, the turbonetics kit bolts up behind the manifolds. The pipes come forward to where the turbo sits, which is where the airbox normally resides. The Turbonetics kit is supposedly much simpler to install than most turbo kits. There is a picture on their site of all the parts laid out. No manifold is included.

Are there any single turbo setups for the g35 with the turbo located near the rear back by the exhaust? Is the main perk for those to make room in the engine bay and the main drawback is the extra piping? Just curious

Doubtful. There is a limited amount of space down by the manifolds. It would be hard to fit a decent sized turbo in there. With a single turbo set-up, a larger turbo is needed than the turbos needed for a twin set-up. Not to mention if they tried to fit it behind the manifold, the piping would likely get too complicated.
