I use 10w60 Castrol or 15w50 Mobil 1, both synthetic.

I bought Royal Purple 10w-40 thinking it was the correct one. Anyone else use something different..Why 20w-50?

I know what it means but why is it necessary to have such thick oil....

I've heard/read in multiple places that 40W is the minimum hot rating you want to use for a turbo motor. My car is running and sounding better than it EVER has with the 20-50W that I'm running right now.

high viscocity oils don't flow as fast, so in a turbo set-up, there can be some problems with insufficient oil flow, but with synthetic oils, they're thinner anyway. 20w50 syn will protect like a 20W50 but have better flow characteristics, so just use syn. if you're gonna run 20W50.

on another note, if you run a thinner oil, technically you will produce more HP, but it's a small amount.
