hey there

the idea of this threat is that we discuss which is the best oil to use, maybe there is different for different situations.

to start, I was told the best I could use on my 350z was castrol gtx.

I am going to be drifting my car from time to time, since the tires cost like 400 bucks each time i have to change em, I wanna go easy on this.

thanks, I hope I dont get stupid comments from low-social-skill people.

drift it up!

you know what?

I don't have 350z but it's not like other motors are not similar.

I used to run mobil 1 oil full synthetic but it feels very thin. When I pour it in it feels thin, when I drain it it feels thin, I also get lower oil pressure according to my gauges!

Now I run Redline oil, some say it is overkill but seriously, most full synthetic oil (not to be confused with synthetic blend) cost arond 7$ + tax already ,to have redline oil shipped to you is not too bad.

They can be had for 7$ a bottle at myoilshop.com. I run 4 of their product (motor oil, transmission fluid, diff fluid, coolant additive)

I think the question you're going to ask is, what kind of weight do I need?

I can't help you there, it depends on your driving style and your enviorment. Over here in south CA, it get pretty hot all year long so it is easy to choose the oil for me.

i see. thanks.

what weight do i need?

well in maryland its starting to get cold, and it will be for some many more months ahead too.my driving style is really fast, avoiding cars in traffic constantly, edging em for less than 1 inch and getting honked daily. of course it is behind me and im not a person who looks to the past.

also i like practicing drifting from time to time, Im very concerned about the tires wearing out so i dont do it much, although from time to time in the very street it just happens to take me.

I've heard redline was good, but what you mean it is overkill?

thanks again.

I said some people think it is overkill. Not sure why they say that but hey, it's about the same price anyways as what you would pay in the local auto store.

if the car will see various temperature I'd just stick with 5w35 or 10w40 depending on which is more suitable for you.

^ This man speaks the truth.

I have always been a Mobil 1 guy, but after our most recent calamity (VH45DE bit the dust), I'm switching to Redline for ALL my cars.

wow .cool you guys.well apparently i can forget about all other brands and use redline..but i wonder what should i use for my style... 10 40 or 5 35?

im really a newbie so i have no idea whats the difference..except one is more heavy than the other..

if i am gonna be driving fast, pushing it all the time, but NOT RACING, and from time to time drifting a few mins.

whats the outcome guys? :D

i was told that if youre gonna MASSIVELY drift it for a long time i should change the oil right in the same day. i got that in mind..but even so..

We use Motul 300V 10W-40 in our GAC race cars they are run at 7500RPM in 2+ hour races. We have never had an oil related failure. We started running Redline race oil in 2003 with good results but had some issues due to the high oil temps and some reaction with the unburned fuel that always ends up in the oil on cold start ups. This problem could have been corrected by switching to Redline street oil which contains an additive package that helps with the contamination problem. We switched to Mobil 1 instead and ran Mobil 1 in 2004. In 2005 we switched to Motul and have used it ever since we tear down our engines every 30 hours and are very pleased with what we see with the Motul I also know that the factory JGTC cars ran Motul when they ran here in the US in 2004, we helped with that effort and Nissan gave us the left over product. We will be running Motul in 2007 in all the GAC and Rolex Nissans. We are the only team that has won races with a Nissan in Grand-Am so I feel we have some knowledge in running the VQ35 in extreme conditions.

I've always had good luck with royal purple. Fully synthetic...You can buy it from Summit racing (there's a store 10min from the house ) I use the 10W40 all year long and change it every 4 months or 5k. I plan on changing all my fluids to royal purple when the time comes.
