I have been using mobile1 5w-30 full synthetic since day one on my car. I have ran into a number of people suggesting that I should run thicker oil because it doens't get too much in california. What do you guys think?

I agree especially since M1 is thin even for a 5w-30.

If you wanna stick with M1 consider M1 SUV 5w-40 oil or Valvoline Durabledn 10w-40, if you autoX or have FI Durablend 20w-50 or M1 15w-50 or Redline 20w-50/10w-40 will be good oils.In winter use M1 0w-40.

(nothing wrong w/ Redlin some of its additives skew UOA's IMO hence the bad info out)

I forgot to mention, yes I do have sr20det motor

so mobile 1 full synethic 15w-50 or 20w-50 is good?

I heard something horrid about redline motor oil but I can't recall what that is at the moment.

I am at my 3000 mark and I have to cahnge it this weekend.

what if I want to run that oil indefinately on all seasons?

heh, sorry for the silly question, I don't drive that much, the lsat time I changed my oil was about 3100 miles ago on 11/19. It may be another half a year until the next 3000 mile mark, which is why I ask.

Ran 15w50 pretty much year long in texas, which had comparable weather to socal. Here in Germany, I run RP 20w50 as M1 15w50 is hit or miss here whether its for sale or not, as our stockmen dont do a very good job.

I did 15w-50

seems like the oil pressure is up by 7psi according to oil pressure gauge and my butt tells me it's harder to raise the rpm

I read that 15w-50 is "Not recommended for street use in production engines that see sustained oil temperatures below 225°F"

why is that?

and redline 10w40 seems to claim it's thicker than a standard 20w50

would redline 10w40 be better for socal or M1 15w50? both are full synthetic
