I've been using royal purple for 2 years, my s14, s13, ka frontier (5w-30) and Tercel (10w-30), with no problems. What i was told is to use regular oil for 500 miles to break in the motor, then go half conventional half synthtic, i guess to let the engine get use to the synthetic, then use full synthetic. Thats what I did and my car runs great.

There was a PDF file that someone had on the forums that rated oils. Royal Purple was second best next to Eneos if I remember

synthetic on a rotory will destroy it. Do not use syn on rotory. But using eneos synthetic will be a big improvment over royal purple. And has been dyno proven to gain i think its 8 wheel hp gain on a 350z. There's a video that shows it on you tube.

Dont listen to any of these guys.

On a new motor, you do NOT want to run synthetic. It will glaze most everything. Use a 30 weight oil for 200-1000 miles depending on your break in technique.

Definetly use regular oil for the first few hundred miles.

Beyond that unless you are trying to get every posable bit of horsepower out then what type of oil you use is not as important as regularly changing it and the filter.

The exotic oils have their advantages and disadvantages the same as regular oils of differant brands. Find an oil that you like and stick with it. This falls under the heading "If it ant broke, don't fix it".

Just stay on top of the ghanges and you will be fine.

If the engines sat for any length of time, i'd put in semi-cheap(decent quality dino juice) then just change it after ~500 miles to a better oil.

My reasoning is if it's sat for a year, your generally supposed to change the oil everything 3000 miles or 6 months. So put in cheap stuff just to clean up the sludge that will have settled, then change it fairly soon afterwards and put in what you plan on running.

<bows to your guruness>

at least someone hits the nail on the head..use cheep **** till ya break the motor in...follow your break in period presicly...dont get in a rush..me personaly..i like to change my oil half way throu it..sometimes even..3 times during the break in..just incase the filters dont catch something..after that....in my opion..id use (Royal Purple)..ive never herd of an oil blowing up someones engine..so dont listen to the chump up top about his buddys FC..that had to be lack of workmanship..royal purple in my humble opinoin seems to be the cleanest oil i have ever used..you will notice how clean when you do your first change..that means..imo..its not breaking down as much as other brands under stress and heat..its just my opinion..so take it for what you will..good luck
