I'm thinking about running Max Life in mine... even though the motor is "low mileage" it is still ~12 years old with old seals.

I've been reading something like 10w50's the way to go regardless of which style of oil you run.

Let me know what you're running!

I "only" drive an SR, but based on the fact its summer >and< you have a turbo a synthetic 50 weight is my recommendation.I run M1 15w-50 in my SR.

Im hope you wont consider the following a hijack:

There is evidence that using thin oils like any xw-30 will harm your turbo charger and possibly the engine as wel,l if run at boost.

Also Synthetic oil has a much superior resistance to oxdiation than a dino oil, which is the single most important feature an oil in a turbo engine should have.

Dino oils are ok only, if you use the toughest of them like a 50 weight performance oil, but even then I would strongly prefer a syn. Some of the better synthetic 40 weights would make an good winter fill on a turbo ( Redline 5w-40)

i run 20w-50 valvoline vr1 racing oil (non-synthetic)

I had mobil 1 10w-30 synthetic oil and it was wayyy to thin...the oil would just go through the bearings in the turbo charger and shoot out into the intake tract..it left me with a film of oil in the intercooler piping and intercooler...and it smoked white smoke really bad out of my exhaust when i got on it. NEVER USE MOBIL1 10w-30 synthetic with rb20det...its simply too thin.

after i switched to 20w-50 valvoline vr1 racing oil it no longer smoked. its a thicker oil so its better for the summer...i would probably use 15w-50 in the winter...

hmmm I have mobile one synthetic in my rb25det and it doesn't smoke at all. All the pipes are clean. I am still going to be switching soon, because I do agree that is to thin of an oil.

In my Sr DET's i used to ise 10 - 40w (NOT FULL SYNTHETIC) NOT good for the turbo

On the RB25 I use 10 - 40 again...it runs good

A motor w more milage should use oil that is slightly thicker....

why isnt synthetic good for the turbo? it lubricates the same (better actually) and has a higher heat resistance. the only difference between most synthetics and dino oils, is the dino's have addatives like seal swellers. thats why when alot of people switch from dino to a full syn, they have leaks.

and the thicker oil thing isnt really true anymore, you should only run what the manufacturer reccomends. at 0 miles to 500,000 and beyond. it was a rule of thumb for older cars but not on late model cars because parts dont wear out like they used to (better engineering and machining techniques.)

I run 10-30 mobil 1 full synthetic. as close to the reccomended 7.5W-30 nissan reccomends.

all i know is when i switched to mobil 1 10w-30 fully synthetic it started smoking really bad...i looked at my i/c piping and oil was everywhere...maybe since my motor ran on regular oil it didnt like the change to synthetic...

after i switched to 20w-50 valvoline it ran MUCH better with no more smoke...

i dont think that synthetic is bad, but if your engine ran with regular oil stick with regular, if it ran with synthetic use synthetic...
