I have a 98 SE, 5 spd. http://DriftKat.com/98SEmine.php for details...pretty much have it dialed in with brakes and suspension.
I originally was reading the other threads here and they went way off track and more into cam gear settings. I am still debating this. Problem I have is with the 98 and the single row chain I am not sure if everything works the same.
I am looking to eventually turbocharge this car, but need a bit of time to recoup from just buying a house in June and most of the disposable income going into it right now.
Still I need to redo my valve cover so I was thinking I could swap cams at that time. If the cams I install now are not reusable later on when I go turbo then it's not a huge loss. I am looking to pick up some more mid to high end power and hopefully better throttle response. My stock engine starts great, but by around 3-4K it gets weaker. I don't want anything that's going to be crazy lopey/shake the car excessively.
I see the ka-t.org guys talk about 240/248 (stock 91-93 setup) a lot and not much about the 248/232 anymore which I thought was the preferred turbo setup. I can understand why the exhaust preference with a turbo engine.
I see alot mention the 240/232 setup as a great daily driver setup, but then usually they say 'for an automatic' along with that.
If going to cam gears is a great improvement I can do that. I have a machine shop contact that made various non-car related items for me already so I am sure they could set me up with a set of gears esp with bringing them the templates. I just don't know if they behave differently on my 98 and it's different cam alignment.
Also does any have any performance numbers of how the cam swaps affect 0-60 or 1/4 mile timing? I have only seen some butt dyno comments and not much with dyno results.
Thanks
Å
