What is the minimum octane fuel that can run on the rb20det? I am running 91 octane now and it runs fine, but what is the lowest octane i can run without knocking?

Thanks

Tony

91+ WHATEVER YOUR PREMIUM IS. ITS NOT WORTH TEMPTING FATE ON AN OLDER TURBO MOTOR WITH ANYTHING LESS, ALTHOUGH MY CAR HAS BEEN RUNNING ON 87 FOR ALL THE TUNING.

FUEL INJECTORS UPGRADED? IF NOT THEN YEAH YOU WILL GET KNOCK, YOU NEED TO SUPPLY MORE FUEL... BTW 10PSI IS STOCK.

I ran 92 with 2 bottles of that octane booster **** per fill up. It is more habit than anything else. Even my lowly civic gets premium fuel. Just a habit. I got myself in teh habit both mentally and monetarily before i got my RB20. I bought the highest octane always and now it is in my budget to run premium

why put it in a stock civic? it dosent need it just waste of money and increased buildup inside the motor from the wasted fuel

a civic HX does NOT need anything higher than 87. **** it probably runs worse on premium.

ACTUALLY IF YOU USE CHEVRON THE DEPOSIT BUILD UP IS NOT A PROBLEM BECAUSE OF THE TECHRON "ADDATIVE" CLEANS THE SYSTEMS WHILE IT RUNS.

Habit...mostly as I said before. Besides why switch?? It is already budgeted and isnt hurting anything. And when I strap that turbo on, I will need to run premium....

you are gonna boost your HX engine? LOL do you know what vtec-e even is?

and switch because its a waste of money! why pay 5$ extra every time you fill up when you dont have to.

I run my DX engine on 87. It deserves it too, that POS.

Japanese hi octane pump gas is 100 octane, the J-spec turbo engines were designed for this so I would get as high as possible and make sure the intercooler was lowering charge temperatures as much as possible. Backing the timing off a degree or two would help too.

Come on now...I am not that much of a newb. I know what VTEC-E is. I am going to boost it because only a few people have and I cant talk to them about their experience and if it is worth it. So I shall see. Besides if 89 or whatever the lowgrade is is 1.59 and premium at the most is a 1.67 on base, why not. I spend maybe a dollar more. But that isnt the point of this thread.....BACK ON TOPIC
