I want to replace the OEM Nissan cassette player in my car with a Nissan CD player. For several reasons, I am one of those people that HATES the look of after market stereos. I like the non-garish, all-black look of factory radios that don't have a hundred tiny buttons all over them. I really don't drive this car very often anyway. Anyway, can someone tell me what other Nissan radios will fit in my car (i.e., models/years)? I have the little cubby hole below the radio. Is the factory opening "DIN"? Combined with the cubby hole, is it "double-DIN"? There are lots of cheap Nissan radios at eBay, but I don't want to get stuck with one that won't go in without cutting something. Also, can someone tell me how to remove the panel around the radio/climate controls without breaking it? Thanks!

Jim

If it is a 5-spd, just grap the plastic and the shift boot on the backside of the shifter and pull up. The rest will come easy. If an auto, I have no experience, but that same technique should work best (maybe use a rag and a screwdriver?)

As for radios, it is double-DIN with both parts removed. I definately agree with you on the aftermarket radios being ****ty compared to stock (as far as appearance), but you are really wasting your $$ getting one - do you need cassette or TV?

I would look at crutchfield.com to get a somewhat stock looking radio with current technology. Using other Nissan stock radios are a headache.

Personally, I have always liked the Clarions. They look pretty good and I have one on my Civic (my parents won't allow me to transfer the radio to the Nissan, grrr) and it puts out an excellent signal. It's a Clarion 40W head with 4 Pioneer speakers. The sound is excellent across the whole frequency range, not just bass.

That Clarion looks better than most aftermarket radios, but I look at a radio's appearance like this: does it match the rest of the dash/interior? If my dash trim was black with silver knobs, then the Clarion might look fine. My dash trim is all black. No silver anywhere. Aftermarket radios tend to "stand out" against the rest of the interior, and I don't like that. I sort of mentioned it in my first post, but I'm also looking to get CD capability 'cheap'. I'd be very happy to get a several year old Nissan CD player in good condition for under $50/shipped I just need to know what radios from other models/years will fit in my radio's opening AND will use the existing plugs (adapters are just more $!).
