I was told by Performance Nissan that there is no CA thermo in the US Nismo parts catalog. Gotta get one from Japan apparently.

By a parts master search, the thermostate is the same as:Z20/Z22 (Datsun 720), L24E (Datsun 910) E15S/E16S/E16I (B11/B12 Sentra etc), Z20E/Z22E (S110 200SX), and of course all CA variants.

ok well i think the one i posted on top is the correct one for the CA18 & RB - NISMO part number -21200RS580

, Maxima 88-89, Z20/Z22 (Datsun 720), L24E (Datsun 910) E15S/E16S/E16I (B11/B12 Sentra etc), Z20E/Z22E (S110 200SX), 300ZX 1984-1996 , Maxima 1985-1994, Pathfinder 1990-2000, Pickup V6 1990-1996, Frontier V6 1998 + Xterra V6 2000+ and of course all CA variants. they share the same OE part number 21200-P7991 and i am guessing RB motors too,

where the SR ones are NISMO part NUmber: 21200-RS520

as you can see they look different.,.

I'm in on this late, but I do know that the SR and KA can use the same NISMO thermostat, but it can't be used on the CA because it is too big.

Just a little FYI, the retail on that 21200-RS580 thermosat is about $68. I'm sure it could be had for a little less if you do some looking, but it's still a pretty pricey little unit there...

Is it necessary to use a thermostat?Im in miami and its always warm, i dont have to worry about starting the car in snow, and waiting for it to warm up.

Right now im not using one, and it runs fine. Cool!!!

running the car w/ out Thurmo stat. is a no-no. what happen is the collant will run in- out from the block to fast that it don't really cool it down like it suppost to. so yes the sensor will read it as its cool. but I will not just take it out...put a lower temp thermo stat in it. just my.02 C

There is another problem with not running a thermostat. The computer will retard your timing until the car reaches NOT. If it doesn't reach it, then you will lack some power and will have poor fuel economy.

The whole point of the Thermostat is to prevent the majority of the coolant from circulating through the radiator until the coolant and motor have warmed up to Normal Operating Temperature. You should only use a colder thermostat if you have modifications done to your car that warrent the need for it. If you are haveing cooling problems or detonation problems, THEN consider a cooler thermostat. A cooler thermostat gains you no horsepower or performance. The only thing that it will do for you is allow the motor to run cooler which CAN lessen the likelyhood of detonation. You want the motor to run at the warmest temperature possible and not have detonation problems. (At least to a certain extent)

also, it helps eliminate hot spots in the head. when you run with no Thermostat hot-spots are more easily formed in your head. allowing you to detonate. when you have a T-Stat, the coolant coming into the engine is all one temp and will prevent hot-spots more easily.

hmm, i know this is kinda late, and i guess im going to bring the bad news again, the SR nismo tstat seems to work flawlessly in my CA, true its longer, but it still fits and my car runs at 75 C and never goes above 85 C at the track after mutiple runs(and this is drifting). the stat opens at 62C and my car will accually go down to 62 if left idling for a couple minutes. maybe my CA is wierd, cuz it loves SR parts.

Bringing back topic from the dead..

Anyone find any answers for this, I dont have a thermostat on my car rite now, and it seems to be a good idea to get one.

Im shooting for the nismo one. Anyone know where to get the ca18det nismo one? or a usdm nismo one that will fit for sure?

If not nismo one, the 88 pulsar one should fit eh? part # 491-180

Don't bother with looking for a Nismo one, getting a CA Nismo one is completely not worth the effort as you'd have to get someone to import it for you from Japan.

Just use the one for a '88 Nissan Pulsar, it'll be fine. They even offer several different temperature variants that open at different points.. my post early in the thread forgot to mention the part# but the dealer can look it up for you or you can see the one on the kit I have there for the 180F thermostat is 21200-P7991.

There ya go. The one on the left is the SR one, the right is the CA one. I just went to Nissan and got a stock one $7. The ones at O'Reily's were hotter thermos than the stock one FYI (stock is 82c, O'Reily's was 86c IIRC)
