The stock muffler is ready to fall off almost. I knew the car would be a bit louder with the cat removed but you can tell the muffler had it.

Any cheapos I can get off ebay that would quiet the exhaust? I'm going to leave the resonator there for now and more than likely replace with a better flowing aftermarket one to keep the noise down.

Thanks!

most you'll find on ebay are "straight through" designs that give real good flow but not much on sound deadening. A good one would be going to your local parts store and finding a cheap performance muffler that would look like a stock muffler but have more baffling than the straight through and less than stock. They've got them around here for $30-45 at the cheapest. Get a measurement of your size restrictions and ask them to look at their catalog with dimentions and inlet/ outlet offsets.

So would getting a muffler from IMCO be a good safe bet? They make replacement exhaust gear for alot of cars and it was suggested on here quite some time ago that they have a better flowing muffler than the stocker.

Is it ok to place 2 exhaust crush gaskets together to help make a better seal?

My test pipe does not make an absolute tight fit on the bottom part of the flange, even though I have the gasket in place and the bolts are tightened as much as they'll go without breaking....

You can also experiment with dual inline exhausts, such as a primary and a secondary, just weld them inline, it shouldn't affect flow assuming they are straight through but it will be quiet..

I never double gasket, it will blow out easier. The problem you've got is either the gasket was cheap/ bad, or the exhaust is misaligned altogether making the mating surfaces not clamp down on the gasket flat and evenly. Try getting some better gaskets before going with any rigged setup.

Don't know about the IMCO, I've never read those old posts.

Never tried the inline either, but if you are looking for cheap I don't know why you'd wanna buy two mufflers instead of one.
