What makes the J30 so heavy? I have read numerous posts where back seats were removed, noise dampeners (spelling?) were taken off, etc. But I don't think that's what adds the weight. What really makes the J such a pig? Is it the type of metal that the car is made of? Or is there more to it?

Not asking to try to make it faster or anything; this question is out of sheer curiosity.

Probably thicker sheet metal and heavier duty things like door handles. The paint on J30s is also better quality and probably thicker than the paint on newer Infinitis. Also all the power accessories like power seats and moonroof add weight. The rear wheel drive is probably the biggest weight gainer compared to a front wheel drive car. The J30 just feels more solid than other cars.

The J30 was never engineered to be a luxury performance car, rather a personal luxury tourer(as it was marketed). Its weight is in line with its early 90's competition.

That's cool; I find myself racing less & less by the day. as of this post, I haven't been to a race track since last May.

I kinda want something heavy duty anyways. Sometimes I have to travel & the routes I end up taking have deer all over the place. If I hit a deer with my Honda, it's gone (the Honda, that is). Will the J survive impact with Bambi?

Everything about these cars is heavy. They run early CAN type communication which adds a few hundred pounds of wires and control units. The control units themselves are not heavy but since there is one for the steering (non T) one for ASCD a few for climate and the things like the block of metal that is the ABS control unit. That's one of the things I like about it though it's got some heft to it, plus it's not so great on gas either.

i removed my rear seats and added some fabric in place of them...also removed the stock exhaust system and added 2 hi flow cats 2.5" with a y-pipe goin str8 back to a megan racing carbon fiber muffler with 4" ti tip....no resonators! so i know i dropped some weight the stock exhaust system had 2 mufflers and then 1 more and now i have only 1 muffler and 2 cats thats it. and my muffler weighs less then both of the hi flow cats put together and sounds nice no raspy or can noise i been getting nothin but good comments about my exhaust sound!

That's what the Civic is for...my gas sipper.

The J will serve as my journey car & a head turner for the ladies if I can pull it off. I MIGHT run it every now & then, but nothing serious in the performance dept.
