ok, I could get a steering column out of a 90 for 80 bucks or out of a 92 for 250, but the thing is my car has 4ws, so I want to know if the old column will work or if there is some module or something in the column that makes it work? I just want to know what the difference is and if I need the newer comlumn. thnx

edit: The 92 has 4ws

i don't think the column is different, but i'm no expert. there is a part in the steering wheel hub specific to HICAS but you might be able to swap it over. the pump and rack are different but that shouldn't be a problem. go to a dealer and have them break it down for you. they can tell you what parts span what years and if the HICAS parts are seperate.

The Hicas cars just have a steering angle sensor in the steering wheel hub. The rest of the column is the same(minus a little extra wiring). If that sensor is removed then your hicas will no longer work. Makes it a b***h when looking for aftermarket steering wheels and hubs.

ok, so would I be able to get the column and steering wheel (I'd be useing the steering wheel I have now it's in better condition) and ingition, put it in my car and just run this extra stuff through there? I f I could do that It'd be so much easier to get and plus I'd save $180! I hope this would work, do you think it would?

sorry, i haven't posted in awhile

The mechanicals should be the same. The only difference is the electronics. You will have to retain that sensor and a non hicas steering wheel will not work(or a nonhicas hub for aftermarket steering wheels). I do not know this for a fact but from what I gather from the FSM this should be true(I only know about the steering wheel from personal experience, I've never had to replace the entire column).

Why are you replacing the entire column by th way?

ok I have all of my parts from my old column and can use them on a new column.I'm gonna make this quick cuz I typed out this huge thing and then it said I wasn't signed in.My ignition switch is screwed up and I dont want to just get a switch because my tumbler may be messed up too, like with the key in it, it just spins freely and has no spring, likem it doesn't click from acessory to start or w/e so I can get a column from a 90 for $80 and it would be very good If I could get that to work, because the 92 ignition is $250. Hope that helped, sorry I shortened it lol

The column from the 90 should work. I don't think the ignition switches were different for hicas model cars. If you can, you should take your column with you to compare the 2 side by side. If they physically look the same then they should work with no/minor modifications. Like I said before though I'm just going by what the FSM shows/says. I don't know from personal experience.

So, you figure that the Hicas wiring possibly could just be ran through the 90 column, the column shape and design is the same but I haven't looked inside either of them, I took mine apart but didn't pay major attention to every part, I was busy pulling the interior out at the time.

bump

Ok, I need to pick this column up soon, and there's one more thing I need to know, will the fact that the cruise buttons aren't in the same spot couse a problem? also is there anything special I should know for this installation?
