Hey guys, im a new guy on here or as yall say.....newbie, anyhow im in the middle of rebuilding my KA24DE but im still saving for the SR20DET but it seems that no matter who it is someone always says that there are hell to work on, now i aint calling anyone a liar because im not that great of a mechanic but i do know what to do when certain stuff happens but anyways as the topic says..... whats so difficult about an Sr20DET, ive read forums on here and ppl dont have a problem, i thought the only hard thing about getting it installed was the wiring since everything else just drops in. Now for all of you who have the SR20DET when something goes wrong isnt it just like any other motor, i mean i know that you have to have the alternator and starter shipped from japan and what not but there getting so popular that anything else that needs replacing you can get it from some shops here in the states so again, im new to this and i want a SR20 but if something happens and its just to hard to fix then i might just stick to my KA, thanks guys.

I dont see what there talking about its just like any other motor. Maybe they think its hard because of the timing cover and chain but the KA has the same deal. Just to let you know you can use a stock 240 alternator with slight modification..I do, I also have stock ps pump on SR bracket.

It's really no different than any other motor other than the fact it is turbocharged and has distributerless ignition(ie: coilpacks). Not to mention the turbocharged version of this motor was never sent here so it is foreign to many, and people are afraid of what they dont know. But yes most of he parts are readily available. Theres nothing really hard about working on them either.

I think its fairly easy to work on actually. There a ***** to time and a hassle but thats seriously it. If people tell you the oil filter is hard to get off then they are retarded. There is a big metal bracket that goes over it to protect it all you have to do is................take off that HUGE metal bracket that makes it so hard to get to, I don't see why people don't get that. Other then that uh.... The coilpacks might be strange to you if you've never seen them but some motors over here use the same deal(VG30dett's out of TT Z32 300zx's, 95 and newer Maximas)
