What made you pic your Z over a G35?

Maybe this isnt as obvious of a choice as it is to others... I am having a hard time deciding between the two right now. I love the look of both cars, moreso the Z. However the interior and comfort of the G is irresistable.

So I ask, what made you choose one over the other?

Honestly, it was because it automatically threw me right on the sidelines of the, "alright, who's car are we taking discussion."

Hah, good point. I hate being the driver, especially when going out etc. And I hate people in my car, putting they're dirty feet on my dash.. Drives me crazy. Are you fairly happy with the comfort/ride of yours? Nice car btw.

I don't need a back seat, so that was one for the Z.

But the biggest factor was performance. The Z is lighter and has a lower CG and better front to rear weight distribution. Combine this with the Z's suspension set up and you have a better handling car.

Now, you can mod the G's to perform as well as a Z but stock vs stock, the Z is the higher performance car.

Thanks! Do you utilize the higher performance of the Z? For me im thinking the G is the better option because I commute an hour to work and back on the freeway four times a week, and the majority of driving is highway..

Gotta agree with what dasoupdude said in the fact that I like not having to drive a bunch of people around. I love the fact that I get to choose who's riding in the Z instead of having everyone just pile into it lol. Even though I like the look of both, the Z is just that much more appealing for me. The lines of the body are perfect. I get more looks in my Z than some people I know who have G's, and we all like that!

I must say that the interior is not that bad in the Z. Like you, I spend about 45 minutes round trip on the highway 4 times a week, and it is not bad at all (especially for a sports car). One upgrade that I would highly recommend is to put sound deadening throughout the entire car. Mine has it and suggest it to everyone that uses their Z for a daily driver like me. I can tell a huge difference when riding in other Z's. You can easily counter act the little extra bit of weight with a nice intake or exhaust. Good luck!

I chose the Z over the G because for about the same price as a new G, I was able to get a new Z and a new Rogue for my wife

I have a similar commute, mine is about 70 mile each way. It could be even more reason for you to get a Z, the lighter weight will get you better mpg. My drive is 95% highway and as long as I can keep my foot out of the throttle I'll get somewhere close to 26 mpg.

On a sidenote: what's up with all of us in the Volunteer State with these long commutes?

Yep, the "rough" ride of the 350z isn't as unbearable as most make it out to be. The G is a bit more comfier though, and has a more stylish interior. 350z interior seems to be more of a simple and efficient design.

(i.e. between the climate controls of both cars, G35 has the arrows button, Z has the twist knob)

Did I mention you could barely recline a 350z's seats?

The rear stereo/glovebox compartment restricts the seats from going anywhere past 65* degrees.

well, since your having a tough time choosing just as i was, i thought i would let you know why i chose my G over the Z.

1. Same engine and suspension if you get the 6MT as i did.

2. Ride is a bit smoother

3. Interior is nicer

4. It has 4 seats

5. It has a lot more room

though i do have to admit i do like the Z styling a bit more. but the G still great looking car.this my G35 i got about 3 months ago.

Neither, I have the best of both worlds owning one of each now.

The cars are as different as night and day. The G is a sporty little car that rides well and handles beautifully to a point. You have a trunk that can actually hold two sets of golf clubs, you have a backseat for the crumbsnatcher if you need it. And I have really enjoyed driving my G as it still turns heads and people comment about it. The Z? Well, it's the one your momma warned you about, it's strong willed, tight, and ready to take you on a e-ticket ride limited only by your own will and guts.

I do have to admit that my commutes to work are going to be a lot of fun from now on. How do I feel today, laid back and just need to cruise on it or am I up for a real rush this morning before getting to the desk? This is going to fun.....

Honestly, as someone who likes, owns, and works with both the Z and the G....... As a daily driven commuting car, the G is the way to go. If you are looking for anything other than a track car that mildly/barely will out performs the other, than I would go with the G35 over the 350Z for sure.

I drive both quite often and I would rather drive a G than a Z most days. I like the shape and body lines on both cars equally, even as different from each other as they are.

The Z is a sports car and he G is a sports luxury car.

Hell, I like both cars almost the same amount, but to drive,..... the nod would have to go to the G35.

There is a reason that the Nissan engineers that I work with said (back in 2003 when the cars were released)... "We (Nissan) did a great job designing & building the 350Z, and then we made improvements on it and call that the G35" Hahaha

LOL Either way, they are both good cars and you will enjoy either one.Good luck.

well, I don't own either But I've driven both.

I'd pick the Z over the G any day. I somehow like the ride and interior of the Z much more than the G. The Z interior seems to flow better and have a better feel to it. To me, the G's interior looked like they tried hard to make it luxurious, but ended up with plastic pieces painted silver. The front end is also a huge factor. The Z just looks sexy right away when you look at it. To me, you have to know whats behind the face to adore the G.

i picked my z over over a g35 because i hate being volunteered to drive on roadtrips, and my salesman was awesome and his buddy (other salesman) was a cool guy and drove a g35 coupe and was sittin there talking cars with me and was saying how my salesman always gets on his case and tells him that a sports car doesnt have a back seat . I guess i just took that to heart lol, and also a 350z was next inline since ive already had a 240sx, and 300zx, lol

Hah, I hear ya man. I live in sumner county in a foreclosure that I bought out here a year ago, never intended on moving into it but I was kind of in a bad situation so here I am, commuting my butt off everytime I need to go somewhere as there is NOTHING around here. Where are you located at?

Thanks guys for all of your input. Right now I am leaning more towards the G. Simply because I am coming from german cars and am use to the comfort. I have test driven four Z cars in the past two weeks and havent liked any of them. I dont know if its just that the ones for sale around here have been beat to crap or what, but none of them came close to being as fast as any of my previous cars (2000 Audi A4 2.8, 97 VR6 GTI, 98 VW Passat Wagon 1.8t, and my current 1998 Audi A8). Im not here to knock anyones taste, I love the way these cars look, but every single one I have test drove has not performed well at all.

Anyone else have a problem like this when searching for there Z? So far ive test driven an 06 Base, 03 Touring, and an 04 Track if I remember correctly..

Considering the 350z can outperform both mk4 and 5 r32's, something had to have been wrong with all the Z's you drove.

My biggest problem when I went hunting for my Z was finding one a near-stockish one, with low miles and the Brembos. I was willing to settle for a Touring and upgrade the brakes later but I really wanted a Track model. I found a couple that were pretty far away that I paid local mechanics to take a look at after the CarFax reports came back clean. One was up in Minnesota and the other was relatively close by in Atlanta but neither panned out.

I checked out other cars but never was in one that wowed me. Other have already read this before but I tried out a Boxster (too much dollar for too little return) and S2000 (fun but too small to be livable on a daily basis) and even an MR2 Spyder and the venerable Miata (loved the top down but too small and underpowered).

I ended up driving home one day and the local Nissan dealer had a 35th Anniversary on the lot with low miles...it was in my garage that same week.

Not sure what to tell you about the ones that you've driven though. Mine was amazing on the test drive. The Porsche had better steering feel (a hallmark of every Porshce I've driven, even the pudgy 928) the S2000 was responsive, agile and had the wail of a banshee when the tach wound up near the 9K mark, but nothing had the combination of what I had experienced in the Z; low end grunt, massive stoppers, agile enough for daily driving and track work (though I had little doubt an S2000 would slither faster through a tight course), and roomy enough for daily driving and weekend getaways. If I could put it on a diet it would be a nearly perfect car. But then I suppose I'd have to follow suit.

I'm over in the Tri-Cities, about 20 minutes from Virginia and maybe 30 minutes from North Carolina and I commute to Asheville, NC which makes winter time interesting (I have no concerns over my ability on the snow, just the natives) but the drive in the spring and summer makes it all worth it.

Then there's the added benefit of being a quick trip away from Tail of the Dragon (even though it's almost ALWAYS too crowded with traffic and IS ALWAYs too crowded with troopers*), I prefer US 421 (The Snake usually just the Bristol, TN to Banner Elk or Boone, NC stretch) since it's a longer drive and never as crowded.

I really wanted the less weight at same power of the Z.Now being older I might chose a G35 but then I wanted the sportiest new Nissan I could get.

That would be the GT-R then....from a stock performance perspective.

The difference between a Z and a G? Z's get the girls panties wet, G's gives them room to drop'em.

That's the other nice thing about the Z...

...with the lower car payment you can afford to go to a hotel instead of having to resort to using the back seat. :naughty:

I suppose a mobile shag-wagon does allow you to "shoot and scoot", so to speak. :lolling:

Matt, back then there was no GTR in the US unless you went grey market of course.

(I dont know what the rules are these days on NIco in responding to an older thread , it used to not be a problem but I hear much has changed...) :)
