What length bolts do I need to mount on an engine stand?

I hate having to ask such a simple question, but I don't have the engine or engine stand on hand and won't for a few weeks. After hearing how impossible these M14x1.5 bolts are to find locally I want to order some but don't have a clue what a "generic" engine stand needs as far as length.

It really depends on the engine stand. Measure the length of the mounting arms on the stand you're going to use, and add an inch.

I used blank steel rod, threaded it with my M14x1.5 die, and made 4 studs.

I had to bore out the back of the bosses of the mounting platform so I could mount the engine to the stand. Those bolts were just too big. As far as finding the bolts, try a small corner hardware store. I've found those to be the best for locating odd sized fasteners. The large national hardware stores usually only stock what sold best over the previous 12 months which is usually standard SAE sizes only.

Thanks for the responses....

There is one Fastenal across town that *just* might have what I need. No luck at anywhere else in town so an order from McMaster or a similar store may be in order!
