I'm going to try tackling the wiring myself. What kind of wires did you guys use to extend the existing harness?

what wiring harness (or part of the wire harness) needs to be extended?

since you have to use plugs from the KA harness just use wires from it too.

For the AFM and o2 wire extension, you need to use shielded wire. You should be able to go to Radio Shack and pick some up.

Actually I tried to go to Radio Shack to get some shielded wire, the lady said they don't carry that, instead she offered me a shielded headphone cable. I would have had to cut the plugs off but it may of worked. Wasn't sure how many wires were inside though. Instead I went to Lowe's and bought some shielded speaker cable (it's what you would use for running speakers in the ceiling or to run speakers to another part of the house) it was pretty cheap and has 4 wires inside. Worked perfectly!

Another option you have is go to some place that sells network cabling and get some "shielded twisted pair" The wires inside it are 4 sets of 2 wires twisted around each other. You theoretically could use that stuff, the only thing is that the gauge is pretty small, but the outer jacket is shielded and it *should* work.

so its not posible to steal wires from the KA harness to do it?

we used wires off the old harness...which were also shielded

I used good 'ole 16 gauge generic wire for extending my mafs, p/s, and o2. No problems whatsoever.

someday someone may be using a cell phone near your car and it will die. Sheilded wire is to prevent RFI ( radio frequency Interference. ) Which can also be triggered by running non-resistor plugs. Sheilded wire should always be used for the AFM, o2 Sensor, TPS. If you have to cut up the Ka harness and use the sheilded wire from that one and you may save yourself a large headache in the future.

Same with fluorescent light bulbs and anything that creates certain frequencies. When I used to pull cable we had to use STP (basically network cables with a shield around it) if it was going to go anywhere near fluorescent lights. So we usually did our best to keep it as far from the lights as we could, but some cases we had to, and thats where the STP fit in.

I cut me a piece of KA harness at the junk yard and unraveled it, its OE wire so its all good, I want to keep my harness mint just in case.

Thanks for the elctronics lesson, I'm an electrical engineer. Prove to me that there can be significant interference to mess with the o2 sensor signal or MAF in any real world situation the car will encounter. Yes interference can occur, but does it is the real question. From my testing, I'm gonna have to say no.
