I am wondering what is your favorite type of wax or sealant for your car besides Five Star Shine. I'm sure that it's as great as everyone claims but right now it's a little out of my budget. Maybe if I could do mine and my wife's car with one I might consider it.

Anyway I've heard some pretty good things about Nu-Finish and was considering trying that. I'm looking for something that will look nice and be somewhat durable. Please give reason's and/or personal experiences for you answer.

Thanks!!

Nu-Finish has solvents in it... Be afraid!

You can do several cars with one container of 5Star (to my knowledge). It's WELL worth the extra $, especially since you don't have to re-do it every month.

Wax = old fashioned.

Search for threads about 5Star and Zaino, this has been discussed extensvely - Good info! :)

Thanks Wes and AZhitman. Azhitman what kind of solvents are in Nu-Finish? Are you sure there are solvents? I only ask because I heard that somewhere else but when I read the label it didn't say anything about solvents. Thanks again for the replies.

Yep.

I'm not positive of the exact ingredient(s)... They're probably not all listed, and they certainly won't admit to it....

It all depends on the look you are after, many councours car detailers still preffer a couple coats of a top notch carnuba, the synthetic stuff such as 5 Star and Zaino give more of a mirror like finish lacking in depth especially on medium to dark colored cars, an awesome carnuba such as Megs #16 still gives a mirror like finish but with a lot more depth or what the detailers call pop, #26 does not have the mirror look of #16 but has more of a deep wet look to it, its not soo much your product but more your technique, just make sure you pay attention to what products have solvents and abbrasives, the solvents will keep you from being able to layer the product and the abbrasives will leave fine scratches in the paint that can be removed but you will be doing more work and using more products, if you want to try an awesome combo get some Megs NXT and do like 2 coats and then top it with 2 coats of #16 or #26, you will be amazed at the outcome, dont do anymore than 3 coats because the carnuba is not optically clear and will result in a cloudy look, also afetr the 1st coat of wax waite 12 before applying the next coat for maximum bonding and longevity, and make sure your surface is prepped correctly as that is the key to getting a great shine, if your prep work is not done correctly then your outcome will not be what it should, good luck and visit Autopia.com for all the info you could possibly need on the subject.:)

G20T with 3 coats of Zaino Z5 and 2 coats of Megs #16, have 5 Star on the truck and it looks great also

I cant confirm or deny what Greg says, but I've used NuFinish for seven years, my dad since the late 80s, and its kept our family's Nissans looking gorgeous. He applied it once or twice a year. I do mine every month out of boredom.

When school starts up I wont have that kind of free time, so Five Star is next on my shopping list.

Yeah, NuFinish was definitely a breakthrough back in the day. Was the most durable coat of anything that a consumer could buy off the shelf and apply infrequently.

I find that NuFinish lasts much, much longer than typical waxes (2-3 months to my liking versus 1-2 weeks) but is missing the depth I get from other products. I use penetrating products like TR-3 when I want to show off. Its more abrasive but the 'glow' from the glaze is incredible. If you apply it properly and evenly you can avoid creating swirls.

...photo shoot I did last year. Clay bar, TR-3, Mother's Gold.

I dont park in a garage and only cover the car when I leave town. So when I consider what I value from a wax/protectant, longetivity and durability outrank shine and depth.

I'm a big fan of Mequiars Gold Class, on paint, wheels, etc.

Anyone try their new NXT?

I dont think that there are many solvents in nu finish that would prevent layering, because it even says on the label to apply another coat after 30 days or so.....

Okay I may get flamed for this dumn question and heck I may even deserve it. What if I put on a coat of Meguirars Gold Class then a coat of Nu-Finish for durability? Would that be helpful or just a waste of time? Would the Meguiars protect the paint from the solvents in Nu-Finish and then Nu-Finish would still do it's job of being durable?

No flaming...

But WHY would you waste a whole day applying two or three products that will be GONE in a month when you can apply one of the new polymer-based products once and be done for 6-12 months?

Seems a simple decision.

BTW, I still have a brand new LEX kit (from the dealer) if anyone wants it (CHEAP). Same stuff as they put on all new Infiniti's... "Desert Protection Package" for $299. :)

I used the Nu-Finish on my car less than a month ago. Bird $hit is a big problem where I work because ther's a lot of rice and beans in my warehouse. The birds are always waiting outside for when we open our doors. When a bird takes a crap on my car, I put a wet paper towel on it to get the crap wet, then I blot it off. DON'T RUB OR YOU WILL SCRATCH! It comes off right away. Much better then before the NU-Finish. My Q also stays much cleaner after rain. So far so good. Use the Nu Finish.

NXT is a great new polymer-based product, doesnt last as long as 5 Star or Zaino but is a great product, you can top it with your Gold Class for an awesome finish.:)

Yeah, Meguiar's GC definitely has a high-class warmth and richness to it. Its especially great for cars that are gold, white, and silver.

I now use 5-Star, but I used to use Zymol for the most part and was always pleased with it.

I have used both Zaino and 5StarShine (on two different cars). There is a world of a difference between these two products and everything else on the market.

The price issue is nominal, particularly considering how little it has to be re-applied.

A bottle of Zaino went onto two cars: my old Infiniti Q45 and my wife's Acura 2.2CL. Whereas, a single bottle of 5StarShine went onto one car: my new Infiniti M45.

In both cases, the shine was awesome, particularly on the older cars. I had people walk up to my 8 year old Q45 and remark that the paint looked new!

Cleaning the cars is a matter of a simple wash now. Removing road tar and bird poop is easy and simple to do with a simple car-wash (i.e., neutral pH) soap!

It has been just shy of a year since I did the Zaino on the Acura and it is still in excellent shape. The 5StarShine on the M45 has been on for less, but it still looks in fine condition.

I am certainly sold on them! :)

So is Meguiars NXT similar to Zaino and 5 Star Shine? Maybe not quite as good but same basic premise?
