What kind of HP can I get out of a non turbo KA24E?

Information on the naturally-aspirated KA24E and KA24DE engines.

Just wondering how much potential power the KA24E has to let loose without a turbo setup? I was looking into getting the max-redline kit, but after researching and finding out its no more legal than a sr20det, its not something i want to deal with living in CA, not only b/c of smog but i would have the CHP to worry about also. I already have an injen intake, what else can I do? or is that engine just naturally limited from producing any significant amount of power?

You can find all of your answers, as well as experiences others had in the KA forum. ka24e-ka24de-forum.html
Doing a search of the forum will provide results quicker than just browsing through threads too.

ehh depends on how crafty you are. A built head, cams, forged high compression internals with a custom intake and ITB's could make it fun.... but then it would be more expensive then a swap.

Depends how much money you want to spend. A couple of thousand can put you close to 200 or more. Simple bolt ons won't even put 140 to the ground.

Yeah, search for NA builds and you'll get some guidance. Here are a few things you can do:

Electric Fans
Lightweight Flywheel
Underdrive Pulley
Cam swaps
Header
Exhaust
ITBs

All of that will only gain 20-30 whp at best (probably less). If you want much more you'll have to spend lots of money, way more money that would be worth it. The only build thread I've seen where anyone actually succeeded in getting 200whp out of a NA KA ended up costing around $7k.

However, if you're creative everything above (except the ITBs) can be done pretty cheap. If that's enough to satisfy you then go for it.

You could probably squeeze out 115hp to the wheels... With an exhaust and intake...

Ask me how I know.

Search out 'Robello KA24E'. That's the company that used to build the SOHC motors for SCCA racing. They made around 300hp N/A. But they cost like $18k and have to be rebuilt after like very 2 races or something like that... lol

But if you don't like turbo, why not supercharge your SOHC?

On the upper end of the naturally aspirated KA24E spectrum are SCCA GT3 engines making somewhere in the neighborhood of 300hp (or so I have read).
