Hello,
Last paragraph has the main question if you don't feel like reading a short novel.
I had taken my car to a fairly reputable shop for some noise that I thought was a wheel bearing. They told me it was the passenger side intermediate bearing on the CV Axle. They replaced the whole Axle and and the sound did not go away. I took it to a second shop for another oppinion and they replaced both front wheel bearings - the humming sound was fixed.
I noticed now though when I make a sharp right turn while I am accelerating the car briefly feels like one of the wheels is skipping / wobbling. I took it back to the shop that replaced the wheel bearings and they noticed there was a leak at the Transfer case where it appears the CV Axle goes into. The shop advised me to take it back to the original shop that replaced the CV axle as it should be covered since they did the repair. When I took it back to the mechanic that replaced the CV Axle he said he would have to replace the Transfer Case outer seal where the CV goes into. The technician told me that he was topping up the transmission fluid as it was slightly low and the seal will be in the shop in 3 days.
The mechanic that replaced the wheel bearings mentioned that he is not sure why the other tech was checking and filling my transmission fluid as any fluid that comes out while changing the CV Axle would have been Gear oil for the transfer case. Videos I see online for different model years indicate that transmission fluid will come out when removing a CV axle from the transfer case. Which would it be?
This is for a 2016 SV AWD Rogue. Not sure which mechanic is right here.
