I have worked on 6 240's... but most of them were sohc and i never paid much attention to the a/c fans... never noticed any fans in front of other fans.
so where does my coolant temp sensor plug in?
thanks for the replies.
All your questions can be answered by looking at a Factory service manual. And that's not an "IF" it's an "IS".
The shroud design of the KA24DE has supports for the fan. There may be another bracket on the radiator too - it's been a while since I've removed mine.
Your coolant temp sensor plugs into intake manifold, right where it belongs... On the SOHC's that you are used to working on, the sensor on the lower radiator hose is not the main coolant temp sensor, it's a less accurate one for something else (don't remember off the top off my head) - the main coolant temp sensor for that is on the intake manifold as well.
Some cars have fans in front, some have fans in back, it's a preference thing...
It might "seem" pointless, and none of us may really know the reason, but if you just stop and used some common sense, you will realize there may be a couple different reasons:
1) 89-90 radiator fans are exposed to rocks/etc & the grill that protects them isn't really that strong -> you can see this on some 240's - mine had that problem. The grill on mine was slightly torn away & it looked like on nice large road debris or decent sized rock could do some serious damage to it.
2) Just because the fan is in front of another fan doesn't mean it is useless, it could still be pulling more air thru the radiator than just the clutch fan alone. It is also closer to the radiator than the clutch fan, that makes some difference.
3) Nissan could have just decided, let's mess w/ hellboy006 and play hide the fans.
