Hey peoples, the other day i went to help a friend put a new dohc ka is his 240 after he took the old blown one out, everything went fine till he hands me this fan and says it was in the car and it just "fell out" when he took the fan shroud off.. well i got to looking around and noticed a few things i hadnt seen yet. 1) there is no A/c fan on the outside of the a/c condenser like there is on my 240 and every other 240 ive seen; it looks like there was never one to begin with because i couldnt even find the 2 clips that go to it. 2) there is no way this fan came stock in this car.. it is a nissan fan and the plugs match but it must be an altima fan or something, i dont see how it was even in the car before because its so big (i obviously wasnt there when they pulled the old motor out). and number 3) i cant find the plug that connects to the water temp sensor for the a/c in the lower radiator hose. there is one clip that is in about the same location as the clip in my car that goes to this sensor but the wires are not long enough to reach... and my friend said that this is the clip that this mystery electric fan was plugged into... im lost here. did this car come w/o a/c or something? what should i do?

Thanks in advance nissan gods

...and yes i searched.

That's the same fan my 93 has as the AC fan. It's mounted off the back of the radiator. My car had this AC condenser -> Radiator -> That same style fan off the back.

Obviously, you haven't seen that many 240's...

There's 2 different style a/c fans - I believe one is for 89-90 (which is probably the one you have), and one for 91-94, which, if I remember correctly, is the one in the picture.

If this fan does go on the back of the radiator then what holes to the pegs go in? and where do the other screw holes line up? and how does the fan shroud fit? and why is their a fan in front of a fan, and why is it on the radiator instead of the a/c condensor? ... seems pointless to me.

I have worked on 6 240's... but most of them were sohc and i never paid much attention to the a/c fans... never noticed any fans in front of other fans.

so where does my coolant temp sensor plug in?

thanks for the replies.

All your questions can be answered by looking at a Factory service manual. And that's not an "IF" it's an "IS".

The shroud design of the KA24DE has supports for the fan. There may be another bracket on the radiator too - it's been a while since I've removed mine.

Your coolant temp sensor plugs into intake manifold, right where it belongs... On the SOHC's that you are used to working on, the sensor on the lower radiator hose is not the main coolant temp sensor, it's a less accurate one for something else (don't remember off the top off my head) - the main coolant temp sensor for that is on the intake manifold as well.

Some cars have fans in front, some have fans in back, it's a preference thing...

It might "seem" pointless, and none of us may really know the reason, but if you just stop and used some common sense, you will realize there may be a couple different reasons:

1) 89-90 radiator fans are exposed to rocks/etc & the grill that protects them isn't really that strong -> you can see this on some 240's - mine had that problem. The grill on mine was slightly torn away & it looked like on nice large road debris or decent sized rock could do some serious damage to it.

2) Just because the fan is in front of another fan doesn't mean it is useless, it could still be pulling more air thru the radiator than just the clutch fan alone. It is also closer to the radiator than the clutch fan, that makes some difference.

3) Nissan could have just decided, let's mess w/ hellboy006 and play hide the fans.

HAHAHA! ...yeah i think its number 3. Ok well i guess ill have to bust out my old FSM... the temp sensor that im talking about is the one in the lower radiator hose... not the 2 small ones that are for the dash temp gauge and the ecu... from what ive found out from searching the forums i believe it is for the A/C.. to tell the fan when to kick on. Thanks for the help.. and the insults

My pleasure, that's what we're here for :P.

To make things even more complicated, the S14's received a slightly different offset a/c fan (but this should give you an idea of how they mount):
